Where to find Threaded Tubing?

Hi, I found out recently that the design I want uses inside threaded tubing to attach the handle scales to the tang. I wanted to use some torx screws and that tubing to attatch some checkered G10. The only problem is I can't find threaded tubing. I have decided to thread my own, but I can't even find the diameter I want. :( I'm thinking something like 1/8" (Stainless if possible). Does anybody use that or know where I can find plain tubing, 1/8"?? Thanks for the help.

If all else fails I found 1/8" thick walled SS tubing at the local hobby store. The wall is too thick for thong hold tubing but might be just right for your application.

If that doesn't work, get some plain rod, thread it, the using a lathe, drill out a hole in it lengthwise. Pad the threads with leather scraps or wrap with masking tape to hold the rod in the chuck.

1911 Colt grip bushings. A little pricey unless you can get them at a Gunshow, but just what you are looking for.

check Lowes and Home Depot in the specialty screws bins, they have some small things there that have threads inside tubing.

Corby style rivets come one side ID threaded, one side OD threaded, and both sides are made with a shoulder. Once installed they can be ground flush to look like plain pins.

I found a website (Thanks blgoode) www.mcmaster.com that has some stainless steel tubing on page 104 of the catalogue. It was also called miniture tubing. A problem is that it mentions a temper:

Hard Temper: High tensile (stretching) strength

Does this mean I would not be able to tap it?? or do you think it is still soft enough to tap??

Thanks for the help.

Material isn't a real big deal, just not brass or pig iron or something. ;)

just ordered a bunch of these from pops for handle screws.

It says the shank diameter is .125" for the 3/16 head size. I'm not sure what they are made of. I'll let you know when they get here. Should be sometime this week.

Does it have a head on the end, or a hole all the way through?? If there is a hole all the way, it just might work.. :D :D Please tell me as soon as you get it! :)

Thanks

Check out RC hobby shops. They have several things with threaded tubing in very small thread sizes (and often plain threaded tubing). They use them to make up control rods and linkages.

What do yall think of barrel pivot pins?

www.texasknife.com has them.
I called and it seems like they will work, do you think the thread size is good? will just two work or will I need more? One problem is whether or not the overhang on the screw head will be enough to hang onto the G10. Tell me what to think of them.

Thanks
