where to find?

Take a look on Collectorknives.net under Bulldog. They have one on special in bone stag. I am not sure what type of scales you prefer, but this one is priced well. Hope this helps.

I only own one, and it is a large whittler with really fat clip blades with cool swedges. I believe some of Bulldogs are actually manufactured by Queen, but not sure about all of them. The two dog bulldogs are apparently more prefered as a collectable. I am not too good with my steel, and do not want to advocate one way or another. I am happy with my one dog so far. The fit and finish are good, and the days are good when it is in my pocket....

cool I just grabbed one from the site you recommended. I absolutely Love the wharnie blade shape. I just hope the steel is comparable to case's CV which I like fairly well.

Interesting post by blues regarding Bulldog brand. I wonder if the ones by Queen are better than ones not made by Queen? I will put my Lansky on my Bulldog when I get home from this week of travel uggh. I wish it was cooler in So Cal, nothing better than lighting a fire, warming my feet and puttin a nice edge on something. I bought my 96 Bulldog with waterfall celluloid scales, and I bought it more because of the shape of the blades and the look of the knife. I just assumed the steel was better than average. I will make a new post giving my single tang stamped bulldog a field trial of sorts....I will let all know if I can put a good edge on it or not, and more importantly, if it tends to hold one. So far, I have just sliced up cardboard boxes into the recycling with it, and I bought it semi sharp, at least usable sharp. I am assuming it was factory, because the knife looks virtually unused. Just an FYI, I bought one of those books on collecting knives and their values, Bulldogs were rated average for that. I guess at this moment, I am still somewhat of an advocate of Bulldog brand, but probably biased because I like the shape, size and personality of the knife. Way too warm in Oakland right now!!!

well thats not very reassuring. I hope the one I ordered turns out better.

Don't take my experience as universal or definitive. Also, on the bright side, it's been several years since so time may be on your side. Let's hope so.

Yeah I am hoping. I hate it when I get a knife and there ends up being something wrong. It then turns into a drawer knife which thankfully I only have a few off but its a collection I dont like adding to.

Gosh Knife Geek, I hope I did not steer you wrong.. If you do not like it, let me know, I was going to buy one regardless. I should have some fun money in a week or so. If you do not like it, send me an email, and I will buy it from you.

CJ,

Thats mighty kind of you. Even if the steel isnt the best it will be a keeper for me because I just love this pattern. Thanks again for you kind offer though.

You can bet on it. I should have it in a few days I will post initial impressions(no camera so no pics) then I will go through my normal reprofiling that I give all new knives and use it for a few days. I will post then as well.

I will say that the Case Seahorse that was sent to me by a forum member has made a very good showing of what it's capable of. The Case stainless has impressed me with ease of sharpening & edge holding.

Disclaimer: This does not mean I'm switching to stainless. I'll live & die by my carbon steel blades. Ain't givin' 'em up for nothin'.

So, you might consider a Case just for the heck of it later on. Might open a few more options for you.

Looking forward to those reviews.

thx - cpr

Ok so I got the knife today. Initial impression is that the fit and finish is average to slightly above. Factory edge leaves a lot to be desired for. Overall though its a nice knife. I am going to sharpen it up to my standards and I will report back in a few days with a little more in depth review.

Pretty fast shipping.....I wish my ebay knife would arrive home....

well I have been grinding away at the main blade and I am getting no where. I think I am going to have it professionally sharpened once and see if I can maintain it from there. I might send it to tom krein since I know and trust his work.

I have a two dogs bulldog and the steel is just fine. Carbon, resists rust, although it has a few spots.I use a medium whet stone that leaves a rougher edge on my knives. They seem to cut better that way, as I've never been great at sharpening, unless its an old knife. Older knives I can get crazy sharp for some reason.I usually make a Moran edge on my knives. Forget about the bevel. Just my opinion.
