I want to do some things with canvas around the house and I need a place to pick it up. I don't see any at fabric shops - but I am not sure where to look.

Help?

Maybe you can buy some cheap canvas tarps and use them ?
Here the military canvas tarps (6' x 6') cost $3.

Academy sports sells canvas tarps, hardware stores also sell canvas drop cloths. Chris

Look in the phone book under tarpaulins. Failing that, contact a local trucker and see where they get their tarps.

Not sure of the quality you need but artist's supply stores have canvas on rolls. Joann Fabrics might have some too... lesser quality than artist's canvas.

I'm not sure if it is okay to link to sites outside the forum so I'll mention it and you can search on your own. Google "The Rain Shed" with no quote marks obviously.

They have EVERYTHING you can imagine to make your own bivi bag, sleeping bag, backpacks, shirts, rain coats and bulk items such as NOMEX, Thinsulate™, Primaloft, Hollofill II, Cordura®, Hypalon™, Waterproof Breathable, Fleece, Lycra, Taffeta/Ripstop....

I bought some canvas from them a while back for a project I'm working on. Plus they have YKK zippers...plus other outdoor DIY stuff.

Our Army/Navy stores have a lot of different size canvas tarps. Northern Tool Co. carries many different size blue tarps.

Wal Mart usually has about 10 different colors, I got my duck canvas there. Typical price is about 7 bucks a linear yard.

Most towns have a shop that makes tarps for truckers. They would probably sell by the yard.

I don't know what you plan on doing with the canvas, but there are better (and more expensive) fabrics out there for various outdoors applications.

Sailrite sells all sorts of fabric for sailing use, and many of their fabrics are good for awnings, etc. Give it a look.
