Howdy, I just picked up a true temper kelly perfect double bit and I'm looking for a good handle to hang it on. I live in Toronto Ontario and I'm having a really, really hard time finding anywhere that stocks double bit handles. I did find one in a random hole-in-the-wall hardware store in downtown Toronto, but it was bowed and not of the best quality (hung an old china made double bit on it for practice). Does anyone know where I can pick up a double bit handle in Toronto or the GTA?? Nobody seems to even understand what I'm asking for when I go to big boxes or smaller hardware stores..

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers.

Lowe's ----item # 147663---model # 2036800.

Bailey's --- item # 15871 ---1-800-322-4539.

I used Google & typed in "double bit axe handles canada"-----all kinds of stuff came up.

Check out The Canadian Outdoor Equipment Co., or Lee Valley tools. I believe they both carry Gransfors Bruks double bit helves.

If you can't find one closer, I'm in Haliburton. I have a chap nearby who makes every type of tool handles and does double bits. So far I've only seen one of his DB handles which are pretty heavy and depending on the head may need some work to make it fit a thinner head. The one great thing is that they are always properly grain aligned. I have to go there fairly soon so can check out whether or not they make more than one DB handle. If you can't find one elsewhere send me a message at my email address. songofthewoods@hotmail.com

If the hardware stores aren't panning out then head to the country and check out the farm supply stores. They often have very good equipment at farm supplies.

thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated. I've looked into the suggested methods but I'm still not having much luck. Robin, I will shoot you an email for this fellows contact info as my cottage is not far from there.

cheers!

You Canadians baffle me. Shouldn't there be like 50 axe handles per Canadian across the country?????? There's only like a million trees per Canadian...

Most of the cedar now used in the American construction industry still comes from Canada. It grows too slow to have generated decent 2nd growth timber in just 100 years. Hem and Fir will make usable lumber in 50 years. Much of Washington's forests have been harvested twice or even three times. But we're down to less than 7% of our original old growth. That stuff is pretty much off limits now - saved to maintain viable breeding stock and habitat.

Large cedars are scarce now. A few that were just too small to harvest 100 years ago are now attaining a respectable size. Earlier this week I came across a beauty, a cedar 7' at its widest. It forked into three trunks about 40' up. It must have lost its top in a storm a century ago. It's funny but that storm damage 100 years ago probably saved its life. No good for logging when it was just a small forked tree.

eh ... it all grows back ...

balance my friend... balance...

green or common sense... problem is: green comes from folks that live in suburbia and have NO idea what the hell they are talking about... they read a book once...!
point is... the greens are full of it and will lie and throw the preverbrial dung anyway they see fit...

while i could give a horney mooses ass...!
