Does anyone know where to get Dye to color epoxy to make it red, blue, green, etc etc? Has anyone tried this to color cord or use it in to fill in gaps?

Thanks in Advance!

Texas Knifemaker Supply carries it. I have not tried it, but there have been times when I needed to. If it works let me know.

I always have used oil based enamels I got from the hobby shop for painting models. Works for me.

You can use artist's oil paint or get small quantities of liquid oil paint pigment at a lumber yard/paint store. If you can find a quantity of baby food jars with lids (the 2oz. size is best), they make good storage for the oil pigment and you can mix your own colors from blue/yellow/red, etc.

I especially like the K&G dyes. The dry pigments don't affect the epoxy at all. Using oil paint, model paint, and other colorants will slightly affects the epoxy.

I use artists acrylic water based paints, purchase at walmart or hobby store. I use it on the epoxy mixed to attach antler, or micarta, and wood handles on knives. Usually black color for this is ok, cause it brings out the color of the handles or antler used.

I also use the acrylic paints for dye. They come in many colors and can be blended to match. It only takes a very small amount to color the epoxy.

I have used CMYK toner from a color copier. There is always a little left in the cartridge when you replace them.

It works great and you can make a bunch of colors with it. A little goes a LONG way, just don't breathe the stuff!

Thanks for the replies guys ! I appreciate it ! Sounds like I can basically use just about anything I can get my hands on.

I guess if the stuff from Texas Knife is water Soluble, then sounds like I could try some finger paints from my kids stash ! lol.

K&G stands for what?

well you can't dye epoxy blue with Dykem I just realized ! :p The stuff just dissapeared into the epoxy ! Maybe i didn't try enough. lol.
