Where to get leather strings/strips?

I want to wrap my hawk's handle with leather or raw hide strings/strips. The handle is wood and it's way to slippery. Where can I get those? I checked local Walmart and craft stores, I couldn't find any.

Try a motorcycle clothing store, the ones they use for leather pants are about the same diameter as paracord

do you have a Flemarket near you? is there someone that works with leather there?? if so then try there.

You could buy 72" rawhide shoelaces at any store. I have used them for wrapping hafts before.

Visit your local junkyard and cut them from a pair of old leather seats. You could also get an old leather jacket, purse, or pair of boots from Goodwill for material.
