Where to get Magnesium and Miners carbide

Anyone know where I can get a small amount of magnesium and "miners carbide". I would like to try cotton balls mixed with these chemicals.

Is this suff readily available. I know I can purchase the magnesium fire starting kits but I was looking for a better way.

I believe AZ has some caves so there should probably be some climbing/outdoor stores that sell caving/spelunking gear. Cavers often use miniers carbide for flares when they are down for long periods.

You might also be able to get magnesium blocks from an industrial supply store. Try McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com).
