Recommendation? Where to go for an extra-large Sodbuster?

The Sodbuster is easily my favorite traditional pattern for many reasons. One problem I've run into though....I can't find one big enough for me. I'm a giant of a man and my hands are enormous. I've got a Smith & Sons Mudbug (made by GEC), and while it does the trick, at 8 1/4 inches it feels like a children's toy while I'm using it.

I'm wondering if a) There's another reputable production knife maker out there with a Sodbuster AT LEAST 9 inches long; and b) If you folks could recommend a custom builder who might be interested in the task.

I don't know the exact measurement, but Rough Rider makes/made a large sodbuster.
Rich

Edit: just checked and can't find them on the mountain shop :-(

Rich it's 4 5/8" closed and available on that auction site.

I'm not sure about current quality. But Carl Schlieper (German eye) makes a 4 3/4" closed Clodbuster model GE99PL. It would still fall a little short of 9"open.

Have you tried a Buck 110 ?
They offer a drop point version that many people consider a large sodbuster.

Btw just what exactly are you using your knife for that you need a pocket knife to perfectly fill your hand ?

I've always thought of Opinels as a functional 'no nonsense' counterpart to a Sod Buster. The No. 10 size Opinel probably comes close in this case, at around 8-3/4" - 9" overall (depending on which vendor's description you look at). The No. 12 is about 11" overall. And the handles on Opinels definitely favor a full grip and are relatively oversized as compared to blade size. And best of all, for their size, they're not very heavy either. Nor expensive, at about $20 for the Classic No. 10 in either carbon or stainless steel, with beech handle.

My Schlieper Stag Sodbuster is only 8 1/2 inches open. Not a Sodbuster, but a single blade, so you might check out the Cold Steel Luzon. The Medium Luzon has a 4-inch blade, 5-inch handle, Overall Length of 9-inches. The Large Luzon has a 6-inch blade , 7.5 Inch handle, Overall length of 13.5 inches. John

I measured my Opinel #10 and it has a handle just a hair over 5" and a 3 7/8" blade, total length open is a hair over 8 7/8". I bought a #12 for the scout gear when I was a scout leader and it is substantially larger. I don't have it so I can't give exact dimensions.

I believe Okapi knives are around the dimensions required here at 9" oal. Not a sodbuster though sadly.

Although not a Sodbuster, this takes many cues from it. Delrin lockback, carbon, Germany and a monstrous size :D
