I am going to be in Seattle/Portland/Spokane/CDA over the holidays.

Where should I go knife shopping?

I want to play with and hopefully buy some knives I have seen online, but no one carries in my area.

In the Portland area go to George & Son Cutlery.
424 SW Washington Street in downtown Portland.
Selection is good. Prices are not the lowest.

in Seattle there's a military surplus store at about 2100 N. First Ave. or so, don't know the name, it's on the east side of the street on the north end of downtown, a few blocks north of Pike's Place Market (a tourist must-see, of course). It has a lot of production knives, at simply ridiculously high prices however . . . .

Thanks guys, I'll write those down.

I'm not going on a "tourist" trip. Visiting friends and family and taking advantage of things we don't have up here. Things like, daylight.

Keep 'em coming. There has to be a couple good shops in the Spokane/CDA area.

Bitterroot Cutlery in Coeur d'Alene has a fair selection( although not much real high end), they're at 4025 N Government Way.

Then there's Spartan Cutlery in the Northtown Mall in Spokane, they have some nice knives but more of the swords and fantasy stuff these days.

Just depends what you're looking for I guess. Good luck.:)

If you are in Portland, don't miss a chance to visit George And Son. It's on Washington between 3rd and 4th Streets downtown. If you have any dull knives, bring them along. I will assert that Carl George has sharpened more knives than anyone else alive on this earth. He's a master. (He's not the George in George and Son. He's not the Son either. He's the great-great-grandson. The store opened in its current location in 1870-something. The store is a family business and the family moved it to Portland from Germany. The family have been Heinkles (sp?) dealers for over 500 years! It is a treat just to talk to Carl George.)

Portland Cutlery has a nice selection too. As I recall, they're on 4th Street a block or two North of Clay. The first thing I do when I go up to downtown is SmartPark the car. Downtown Portland is for walking. So, I don't always know the exact addresses of places.

If you can get a few miles more south to Salem, Northwest Knives and Collectibles is one of the finest collectible knife stores in America. 350 Court Street comes to mind. It's on Court Street in the 300 block. Well worth the trip.

George and son does have a very good selection, but I ALWAYS bought my Benchmades from Andy & Bax @ 324 SE Grand. My favorite surplus store in Portland too. I think they got some deal with benchmade so they get a lot of pre productions... Great place!

try these Places ! Merlos Cutlery shop at "Clackamas Town Center " , Excaliber Cutlery at "LLoyd center" ,there is another Cutlery shop at " Washington Square". if your going to visit then by all mean's check out every place around for knives . as Chuck said there is Portland , George and Son , NW Knives and Collectibles in Salem, This Saturday there is a " Show" in Eugene sponsored by OKCA the same people who put on the " Big Eugene " show. Looks like george and sons is a must, as well as the others.
