Where to look for a discontinued knife - Bass Pro Bob Timberlake 55

Hello,

Here is a story:

Back in 2005 my parents gave me a Buck 55 for Christmas -
My dad said "here's your knife for the next two months."
I said "What do you mean by that?"
Dad - "you know you can't keep a knife longer than 2 months without losing it..."
Me "I've mended my ways, I don't lose things so much anymore."
Everyone in the room, which including my then 4 year old daughters laughed heartily.
Me "No, I'm serious. You just wait and see, next Christmas I will be opening everyone's packages with this knife"
Brother-in-Law "You'll just put it in a drawer until next Christmas..."
Me "I'll carry it every day, You can ask to see it anytime you see me."

I made good on that, and despite all the odds, I had that knife for the next Christmas.
And I have had it for every Christmas since then (though to be honest, there were periods in there where, for months at a time, I could not find that knife.)

After I had that knife for a few years, I got to thinking that since I am no longer a knife loser, maybe I should get a nicer knife. And then I saw these Buck Knives at Bass Pro Shops that were Bob Timberlake designed. I don't care all that much for the feather, but everything else about the I just really, really liked. I especially like the blade. So I tell my wife, if I keep the 55 I have for 10 years, then I am going to upgrade to one of those Bob Timberlake Buck 55.

So now I am shopping around for one and I see they do not sell them anymore. I guess they were limited run type thing. I missed my chance.

I thought I would check the big auction site, nothing...
I did some Google searches, nothing...

How does a guy go about finding a particular knife that doesn't seem all that common. Is there a place to take out a want ad so to speak?

Alternatively, is there another way to get a buck knife with a blade like that? I have seen some with the flint looking metal that is just at the top part of the blade, but not any others where the flint look goes all the way down to the edge.

I am not a knife collector. I just want that one knife. Suggestions on where to look?

Thanks.

Erik

Hi drab,

Welcome to the Buck forums. There have been a few limited edition 55s, build out 55s, and special order 55s that were made with the chipflint style blades. some were full chipflint and some part chipflint blades.

email me and I can give you a person to contact that maybe able to help.

You are not likely to find one... only 50 are listed as being made in 2005 for Bass Pro.......
I've never even seen one and I've beaten the bushes hard for years......

Thanks to those who helped, I was able to locate the Timberlake 55 that I was wanting.

The price was $200, which seemed kind of high given that they cost $169 from Bass Pro when they were new. But it sounds like I wouldn't be able to locate another one any time soon, and so I winced and paid...

I'll post pictures when it comes.

Thanks again! !

Sorry for the delay in getting these pictures.

I am not sure that I like the knife as much as I hoped. But I had fun looking for it.

It does not show up as pronounced in these pictures, but the blade is darker on the part that is not covered by the handle when folded. I would have thought, if anything, the exposed part would get faded.

Thank you for sharing your pictures. It's a pretty knife. What is the material or finish of the bolsters?

Hi Erik,

What a fantastic looking knife, happy to see that you were able to find one! I wonder if the the previous owner was wiping the knife down for storage and that material has left a film on the blade causing the color variance? Try washing the blade in hot water with soap to see if that would help. Thanks for sharing your photo's with us:thumbup:.
