My workshop is almost set up. I just picked up my new evenheat kiln but im not sure where to place it in the shop. I wish I had a picture to show of the shop layout. Its 8' x 8' and 9' tall. Theres not much room to move atm.
When you walk in the door there is workbench area down both walls.

Im thinking of putting the kiln next too the door it will be a tight fit im wondering if the cold air from the door will effect the hot blades ??
Also what height should the kiln be at. To save space I was going to put it under one of the work benches around waist height from the floor. Im not sure if this can heat up the shelf above it and cause a fire or not ??

Also Im starting with 1084 and 1095 and I cant seem to track down any sort of quench oil here in BC Canada.
Any help with this would be great thanks !

Don't run it under a bench!

You might put it on a cart to roll out when needed.

Being close to a cold door shouldn't be a problem.

mine is also on a cart that way i can keep it away for anything that might catch fire ( i believe the stand off distance for any bare walls is 2 feet )

I thought I had a small space.

Make the height so that it is comfortable and easy to get blades out that are going into quench. You want to have one fluid motion from the kiln to the quench.

Put it on a cart and roll it out of the way when not in use, and place it and the quench tank outside ,if possible, when doing a HT. Your shop is too small for safe use of a HT oven and doing quenching inside. You may want to build an 8X8 foot awning/shed roof outside the shop to work under for many tasks that will be better done outside.

The cart shown is available from HF and many other discount supply and auto stores. The one I had previously commented about reversing the top shelf was the smaller welding cart. The cart in the link is big enough for most all ovens to be placed on with the top shelf as is shown. I have a 24" Paragon on the top and it fits perfectly. I put the roll of HT foil, tongs, etc. on the top shelf beside and under the oven. I have a smaller tempering oven on the bottom shelf.

As for placement in the shop and elsewhere, a HT oven will get HOT in use. I have received a bad burn from accidentally brushing against the outside. They need to be 24" away from any combustible material...and they will also melt plastic and PVC if too close. Don't set it up against the PVC siding of your shop or house or it will warp the siding...Don't ask me how I know this :) I would never place one under a counter for any reason.
