Where to put the thumbstud?

I have a folder that I have almost finished, but I need to add the thumbstud. I would like to know how you other makers judge where to put it. I know that if it's too close to the backbar, but clears the bolster it might have enough leverage, but if it is too far down the blade, it looks funny. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chuck

The wisest thing to do is measure everything. You want it to clear the bottom of the bolster, as you have stated, so just put a pencil mark there, make sure if youre using a 3/16" thumbstud that there is at least .100" of clearance, maybe .125, and then with my micrometer I would scratch a line .125 down from the top of the blade, and where these two lines intersect is the spot... make sure before you drill the hole that everything is going to clear and it isnt going to interfer with anything else.

There is a formula developed by Sal Glasser.
It give the best leverage position of a thumb stud. Email Sal Im sure he will give it to ya if its not a company secret!
I use it on all my knives.
