im asking the question in the thread title because of this. i recently bought a knife on bladeforums and it was described as haveing a "small bump on the top" unsure of what this was, i was stupid enough not to ask. when i got the knife it had a massive chip in the blade. i tried to buff it out with a stone but it just wont come out. attempting to buff it out, came with its usual screw ups and it slid off the stone, scratching the entire side of it. now, extreemly pissed off, im wondering where exxactly i can send it to get it fixed. im talking about having the scratches polished out (its a semi-mirror polished finnished blade) and the chip done away with. and if there are such places, who is the best? just as a side note though, i dont have the reciept or anything, and its past the manufacturers warrenty. please no stupid answers like "why would you want to do this/that" i jUSt want an answer to my question with Facts. not your personal opinion as to why i should keep my $200 knife looking like a piece of junk.

PS: does anyone know o a way to polish scartches out of a blade? (NOT TOOTHPASTE+RAG)

A buffing wheel with polishing compound should get the finish you want. Post up a pic of the chip so we can see it please. If it is in fact, massive, then it may need to be ground out. Keeping it as cool as possible is key while doing that as you don't want to mess up the heat treating.

how much do buffing wheels cost? also, i heard some good things about simichrome. will simichrome and a microfiber cloth help? not realy concerned with how long it takes. just the results in the end. also, how do you know if youve messed up the heat treating?

Might not want to spend money on all that unless you'll be using it for other stuff too. I'd give richard a call. I saw one blade he did that was mirror polished and it was sick. No need to use a mirror to shave in the morning, just use your shaving knife to do it:thumbup:.
