Where do you guys send your blades to have them heat treated. I'm looking for someone who can handle big batches of blades. I heard a while back the Bos retired and only does HT for certain people now. I need someone who can do anywhere from 30 to 100+ blades per shipment with a relatively quick turnaround. Who do you guys recommend?

Paul Bos did retire, but he trained a replacement a year a before he left.
Business as usual as far as I know.

Take your pick.

Heat Treating

Bos is still involved, but he wasn't a spring chicken and I think his back was giving him problems. A new fellow is managing the day to day. They're quick, reasonably priced and can keep stuff straight and clean.

I have some pretty unusual requests, so I'm experimenting with Peters right now.

I use Peters Heat Treating , They Charge very fairly on large shipments. It's around $80.00 for 20LBs of blades as long as they are the same steel. That includes cryo treating.

The fella handling the HT in Mr. Bos' absence is a really great guy by the name of Paul Farner, who was trained by the man himself for 10 years before Bos semi-retired last year.

It is indeed business as usual and the quality and speed of service are still outstanding. I sent 20 blades off a week before Christmas last year and they were back in our hands on the 29th. That's what I call service.

If you degrease your blades before you wrap them up to ship them, you won't believe how clean they come back. Just a slight gray/purple oxidation/discoloration that comes off with a pass of a Scotchbrite belt.

I haven't used Peters', but I've only heard good things from them. Can't go wrong with either.

As an aside, I've finally got an Evenheat 22.5 that's due to arrive on the 22nd, so I'll be doing my own HT from now on and am so excited I can hardly stand it! Opens up a whole new world of testing prototypes and instant gratification.:D
