I have come into possesion of a very old 52" saw blade that has me puzzled. It dosnt act like the other saw blade steel I have (which are something like 1075 + nickle)...This steel air hardens and you cant drill it to save your life(about a third way thru and your bits dead every time, three brand new 3/16 bits shot to crap)..We had to hot punch the pin holes and it wont anneal right (In my usual trough full of ashes)..It some kind of alloy steel for certain but Id like to know for sure..Its the only saw steel Ive ever ran across that acts like this..
Anyone know where I can get it tested?

Don't know were to send it but it sounds like L6 to me. I would be interested in finding out what it is.

Another poster here graciously sent me some info where to get it tested. Im gonna knock off a piece tomorrow and get it sent out..Ill post the results when I get them..
