Where to start?

I've recently been researching a bit of knife making and found it to be very interesting and not too expensive to get into. I need a hobby that costs less than cars :).

I'm just wondering where to start, what tools to begin with, and what are the do's and don'ts of knife making? I looked at the stickie for newbies but it didnt help very much.
