SR101 is modified 52100 (ball bearing steel) with a proprietary heat treat.
Through Hardening means that the steel is treated all the way through and has the same hardness. This differs from case hardening and from differential hardening.
Differential hardening is when the blade has different hardness at different areas. The edge is hard whereas the spine is left soft. The soft spine can take more shock and impact.
