Back about 6-8 years ago,I and quite a few others were on this forum every night for 2-4 hours.
This lasted for several years.
Then there was a blow-up between 2 of the main members and sources of info and several members left and moved over to AAPK.
This forum was not the same after that and I gradually drifted away.
Codger was working on a book and a lot of us contributed info over several years.
Did he ever published it?
Is it available for purchase?
I'm sure Dale or Larry r'Irv probably has all that info.
Ron

Hello Ron----Codger still gets on here ever so often, usually a week or two. To my newbee knowledge he has not printed a book so far, but not 100% sure though.

The amount of information/research Codger has submitted to this forum since that time has been enough to fill two books...if you like to search forum history it will keep you going for more than a few hours...he is still very active in knife research and also trying to earn a living...I continue to communicate with Codge perhaps 3 times a week and he always reponds to any questions I put to him....when interesting questions that have not already been answered umpteen times on here are posed, he invariably responds...the search functions are there for all to use and a fantastic Schrade resource...not many models havnt been discussed at length now....I still use the search functions.....Hoo Roo

Yes, I am still here. And I still do research. And I post it here, and in the Camillus forum and in the Levine forum of bladeforums. What I have found is that having fully published here, it would make no sense to copy and paste the research into book form when it is all here free for the use of all. When I originally had the intent of writing a book, it was because the information just was not available elsewhere. But now it is. Between this site and LRV's site, there is far more information available on the brands and the principal actors in Schrade history than in any book or website. For the most part, the information was freely given to me and has been freely shared by me. And as it is posted here, it is greatly augmented by information freely given by other collectors and Schradophiles. New information comes to light all the time and ammending it here is much easier than printing revised editions of a paper book. For instance the information gained from Tom WIlliams regarding the knives that were made by Camillus for Schrade and Imperial. And the behind the scenes stories of the knives and the people shared with us by members such as Eric. And new discoveries of aforeto unknown patterns, variants and prototypes/samples which come to light with amazing regularity. Neither I, nor Bruce Voyles, nor any other author could hope to present a volume approaching the definative history of Schrade and it's products as has been presented here. Here, each of you is a contributing writer to this story.

....you can lead a horse to water but a pencil must be lead.......Stan Laurel.......if he was alive today would Stan add 'but a pencil must be graphite' to be politically correct...? Hoo Roo
P.S.Codger, thanks again for all your contributions and time spent in research to the benefit of all....
P.P.S. Another near mint 3OT now resides in Australia...thats 4 accounted for out of the possibly 6 ever made, as stated by Herman Williams....beautiful bone 3OT circa 1959....
Codger where did your Stan Laurel quote in previous post go..now I look a dingo!.....

Thank you Michael for all the information and answers you provide!

Michael,
Glad to see that you are still active!
Are you still in the swimming pool business?
The last two years have been a little tough for me - in Feb & March of 2010,we had 45 days straight of significant snow that required shoveling. In June,I had open-heart surgery with 5 by-passes.Last fall,I fell and broke my back and had to have it fused. Then I fell in the hospital and broke my leg.Still having to use a walker to get around.
Did Voyles ever publish a book on Schrade knives?
By the way, that avatar that you made me sure was prophetic - or a jinx1

Ron, life is hazardous for some of us! Wow! As far as I know, Voyles never published his Schrade book. In fact, other than the few remaining copies of the reproduced Schrade Catalog with updates, and Clemente's book, no Schrade specific book has yet been published.

I've got those-in fact I have an original Schrade Catalog E & supplements - plus a couple of the reprints. The original has a different style of binding that uses 2 staples and it won't seperate like the reprints will if you're not careful. The covers are more of a greyish tan,not a light tan like the reprints.

Since I've had all the health problems the last two years,I'm going to start disposing of my stuff on eBay or the wife will have a garage sale after I kick off.

Okay...
So just who is this Codger fellow?
It's been ages since I've talked to him!

(Post no replies, this is just me being my typical smartass self.)

I figured it an appropriate way to renew my forum association!

Very cool Ron! That's the first original I've seen.

Eric
It's the only one that I've seen also.I bought it off eBay in 2001.One of the Tennessee mafia had it listed for $100,which was pretty expensive back then.
The binding is a lot better than the reprint. You can open it flat without damaging it.
ron

Hey, considering the reprints go for around $30 or so, that's not too bad for an original. I've got two reprints that are basically folders with loose pages in them at this point, but then again I'm constantly thumbing through them! :D

Codger,

Somewhere in Bladeforums I read someone bewailing the loss of a Randall Made Knives forum. When it was shut down, much knowledge was lost.

I wish Bladeforums all health and happiness. But life is uncertain. Information can be lost. Electronic media seem even more ephemeral than words perched in dead trees. If you publish that book, the resource will still be around in a century. I wouldn’t bet that any current electronic media will survive that long.

There is still a Randall forum, but I somewhat agree with your point Raymond. Many people are incapable of searching the forum archives (they just post and ask someone else to do it), and it is really hard to find exactly what you are looking for sometimes. A book is a lot of hard work though. A book also makes it difficult to cover everything that people want to know.

This forum does in fact make it a lot easier to get answers than any book would. Questions are often specific to a knife someone just obtained.

This was somebody in the Bladeforums Randall subform. He was talking about some other, unaffiliated, RMK forum. IIRC the guy running it had died and nobody else maintained it.

Though I agree that turning information from the web into a real book is a lot of work.

Feel free to copy and print to your heart's desire. By the way, I can still access parts of the original Imperial Schrade website back to it's beginning via web archives like the waybackmachine. This forum also has archives going back many years.
