I don't understand why there is not more action here on the Camillus forum. The Busse forum has six times the number of posts even though the Beckers are better knives. Well, let's just say that at seven times the price the Busses are not seven times the knife. I guess when you pay that much for a knife you have to talk it up a lot to justify the knife to yourself.
Furthermore, there are many more Camillus knives (and knives carrying different brand names but manufactured by Camillus) out there than there are Busses.
Maybe if Camillus offered some limited edition Becker knives it would stir up some more excitement.

well i think that the bekker owners just dont want to make the busse owners sad because they threw away so much money when they could buy a bk&t:D

LOL!

"Maybe if Camillus offered some limited edition Becker knives it would stir up some more excitement."

This sounds like I'm not giving Camillus credit when it's clear that they have introduced many new and exciting knives in the past year.
What's the problem then?
I guess we need some Camillus adventure stories like how someone took a log and whacked on the spine of a Becker to split another larger log. Then we can all marvel at how tough the Becker knives are.
Maybe Camillus could offer the "Intolerant Hero" series of limited edition Becker knives with a satin finish.
Or a limited edition BK7 and BK10 drop point.
Or maybe Will could offer some protoype knives or shop knives to the Camillus afficionados here on this forum.
Camillus rules, and Becker knives are proving to be some of the finest knives ever produced.

I think it the 'exclusive owners club' aspect of some of the other makers forums, like HI, Busse and CRK, that prompt people to go there and hang out.

My BK7 isn't a part of my identity, it doesn't make me feel I belong anywhere, it doesn't make me want to write prose in it's honour and it isn't made in a mystical part of the world (like the Himalaya's) - It's just a tool, I cut things with it, I chop vines and I bash it through pieces of wood - thats it.

Busses are good knives.

Jerry likes to talk a lot.

His disciples do the same?

*shrug*

I should add that I've got no problem with people who do wax lyrical about their knives. I plan to do the same one day when I own a sebbie and a satin jack - til then it's my unromantic BK7.

BK&T......Knives That Work For A Living:D

Maybe people don't "wax eloquent" unless they spend alot of $$$$$$$

Gotta do something to take the mind off the pain I guess.

I pulled my BK7 (and Spyderco Military) out tonight and stared at them for some poetic inspiration. Couldn't get any - just the line 'functional but ugly'. Now the CUDA EDC, on the other hand, that is a thing of beauty.

I'm about to head off on a 3-day trek. I'm going to note down each time I use the BK7 and what for. See if I can post a small review and get some 'action' happening around here.

I recall a story in here of a paramedic using a campanion.

I've got both Busses and Beckers. I've found both brands have their strong points and downsides. No big deal, they both work for what I ask them each to do. I recommend both as the knives of choice in their respective price windows.

I figure a lot of knife comparison is like the old endless "Chevy or Ford or Dodge" truck debate. They'll all haul bags of cement or a load of sheet goods, which is the important thing. IME the rest is just beer or bravado talking. ;) :D Likewise there are lots of knife manufacturers or makers whose wares will take care of my chores and not break a sweat doing it.

Bottom line in my opinion is to use your knives as you will, assess their performance as honestly as you can, and enjoy the company of fellow knife knuts for the cordiality or entertainment value it offers. Now if you'll excuse me, there's some lunchtime cuttin' in the kitchen that needs tending to. Yummmm .... lunch. :)

You all should see my pair of Camillus CUDA CQB-1...(But I'm digitally "challenged" right now, so no pictures...:()...I have customized them by mirror-polishing totally around the edges of the steel, the upper "false-edge" on both, and by rounding & polishing the edges of the (canvas micarta) scales. I also cut a 1/4" choil into one of 'em.

They both look and feel...FANTASTIC!

(How's that for action?.:).).

I too am one of those who has Busses (and Swamp Rats) and Beckers. I love them all. Do you know the really remarkable thing, though? With over 60,000 posts on the Busse forum (which I read regularly), I hardly ever see anybody saying anything against Becker or anyone else who makes good knives that they stand behind, or the buyers of those knives. In the rare cases when people do get out of line, they are generally asked to keep their comments to themselves and often by Jerry himself. There are about 1/6 that number of posts over here, and I wouldn't have to scan twenty seconds to find words ranging from dismissive to nasty about Busse knives and the 'fools' who buy them. Neither Camillus nor Will are responsible for this, it's just a few vocal forum frequenters. In a serious situation I would confidently bet my life on a Steel Heart, Camp Tramp, or C/U7 without hesitation. Camillus makes awesome knives, and I'm never giving mine up. When it comes to naming forums where I can really just relax and enjoy myself, however, I'm afraid my choices become fewer. :(

Ah yes you are right T1mani. Consider me duly scolded. My last two posts do read a touch bitchy. I love fine things and am prepared to pay the price for them and can fully understand people getting together on a forum to share that appreciation. Sharing it just adds to the joy of owning.

I was just commenting that there is not the same 'vibe' about the solid old proletarian BK7. Didn't mean to 'diss' Busse and Sebenza owners and the like. I can't when I'll no doubt be joining them one day.

Hmmmm...and reading mine now, it sounds more self-righteous than it was meant to. My main point, I guess, was that I don't see why (some) people feel they have to justify their love of Beckers by attempting to run others down. My Beckers don't need any defendin'! I do keep them and the Busses in separate drawers, but that's not for their safety--I just don't want any illegitimate Steel Utilities Or Natural Campanions running around.

As to the vibe, I guess a Sebenza (or Satin Jack) is like the hot woman you meet in a bar, as opposed to the girl-next-door C/U7. Both can show you a good time, and both have all of the important parts, so it comes down to personal preference. Of course, the choice is clear--stay in touch with both of them. :D

Maybe all the Camillus owners are busy on other forums recomending Camillus knives!!! I can't count how many times I've read the old "looking for a fixed blade", or "looking for a folder", or "looking for a 'survival' knife", (or whatever) thread, and someone chimes in with a Camillus recomendation. I know I've recomended the Becker line many, many times.

Also, I find that I check the Camillus Forum at least daily, to see what's happening, but I don't post here much, I don't know why.
