Hey all, I'm looking for a new tac sword and was thinking of the AK47 waki because of its legendary quality and practicality...

What is the best place to pick one of these up?

also, are there any other Busse swords i should consider?

Thanks, Ironwood

They pop up on ebay more frequently than the exchange forums. Check daily and you should have one within 1-2 months. Throwing a post inn the WTB wouldn't hurt either. God luck with your search!

WTB works great. You could also check out the Ruck in INFI, Swamprat Waki or Rucki inSR101, and Scrapyard Scrapizashi in SR77.

If you don't find one by June, you could try to get a proxy to get one for you at blade

Crappy pics but might help
for comparison, satin AK, G10 waki, and scrapizashi with wrapped handle. They are less than an inch apart and same thickness

I've seen a good 4-5 on ebay in the last couple months. They have sold anywhere from $700 to $1000 depending on finish and condition.

2 Scrapizashis just sold here for $365 each and brand new. Hard to beat that!

Just fyi, the AK47 and the Waki are different swords. The AK47 is a Busse blade made of INFI, while the he Waki is Swamprat blade made, I think, from SR-101. They're similarly sized, but the AK is a bit longer than the Waki. They're both great swords.

I had several AKs listed for $850, but I sold the last one a few weeks ago. I've seen them sell for more, and I've seen them go for less. But not much less.

In browsing the exchange, it appears that Wakis get snapped up pretty fast for $450-$500.

How does the rodent ruki compare to these other swords???

The Rucki, like th Waki, is made of SR-101. The Rucki (23.5" overall, 15.25" blade) is considerably shorter than th AK47 (29" overall, 18.5" blade) or the Waki (27" overall, 17.5" blade).

Note that you can post on the WTB forum, but you will not be able to read any other posts there, as you are only a Registered User.

Good luck in your quest.

Do some searching, you can find threads comparing the various Bussekin swords.

IMHO, the Swamp Rat Waki offers 90% of the performance of the AK47 at 50% of the price. The new, smaller Rucki is very nice , too.

Silly me. I still have a tan/tan AK available, which must be why I haven't removed the link from the sig line yet.

The Rucki is a fun sword, blade length is nothing super long though. With the AK in hand, you get a warm fuzzy feeling :D

you looking to get it just to have or to use? The Waki has a fatter handle and is pretty nice to chop with, I've heard the AK can slip a bit but I've never used one.

The Scrap Yarp Scrapazashi is a cool blade that looks great with the coating stripped, I'm not a fan of the cord wrapped handles though so a new scaling would be pretty cool to do.

I'm looking for something I can really use and beat up that's a step above my Hanwei Tac Swords which are good only for self defense...I'd like the sword to feel at least similar to a traditional wakizashi as thats what I've trained with and know how to use. The ruki might be good for a fun little sword for survival type stuff, but I'd still like to get something with more reach.

The AK47 and the Waki are certainly tough enough, you can chop down trees with them, or cut a car in half. The cognescenti on the Sword forum, however, consider them to be sword-like objects, as they do not have the feel of a true wakizashi. That's just what I read. AFAIK, the Bussekin SWO do have a thicker edge (ie, steeper grind profile) than the real deal. Of course, that WHY you can have so much fun with them.

Well, whoever is calling them SLOs should be shot for throwing something like those in the same category as the cheap Chinese made stainless steel swords with two inch tangs and plastic same you get in Chinatown...
However, I have heard that thy don't handle well if you try to use them traditionally. I'm thing I should just buy the rucki as I won't treat it like a wak if it isn't...
I really can't believe all the helpful post, thanks for them
Ironwood

I have also read that the Rucki is more SLO or chopper than sword. Isn't the original intention of the design for chopping off limbs and puncturing armor? I would be curious to see a Rucki/Ruck (or AK/Waki) go up against a traditional make. I am guessing that the trad would edge out the kin in blade on blade and maybe speed/ maneuverability, but I think that they would be equal otherwise and probably a little more useful/ multipurpose. I imagine that one probably wouldn't want to use a trad for some (many) of the things you wouldn't think twice about using a kin blade for. Thoughts? On that note I plan on getting another Rucki (I sold the first one I got :grumpy: thinking I wanted something else) and have been on the lookout for an AK (or Ruck (grail for me)) I could afford
