Where's the HIGGY?????

Thanks for thinking about me, Mr. Rebello! :D

I've been pretty sick. My lifestyle has driven my blood glucose levels to new highs, and finally things have decided to pop. I've been in diabetic rehab, and trying to get it back down with a combination of weight loss, drugs, diet changes, and exercise.

So far, I've been successful in shedding a few pounds and dropping my blood sugar 100 points. Yes, it was really really high. :( Diabetes is such a horrible disease in that it can core you from the inside-out without you even knowing until its too late. I'm lucky in that my syptoms have manifested themselves into blinding headaches and so I found myself at the doctor's wondering why.

I haven't forgotten you guys - just been spending a lot of time at the health club trying to get this crap under control, and getting my head wrapped around a lifestyle change. You have no idea how much it means to me to have you post as to my whereabouts. I'm humbled at the thought that my absence creates a void here.

But things are looking up.

I'm feeling better, and my creativity is coming back. The headacehs are still here, but I'm dealing with that, and actually beginning to feel a bit better. I still have a ways to go, but I'm getting itchy to get back in the shop. Right now, I have a deliciously-evil claw-style knife 90% complete with blued fittings, copper, snakewood, and IG damascus! I want to get that one finished and posted here, but I'm just not well-enough to put any time into the shop. Maybe next week, and I'll be gtg.

Hey Bubba you take care and don't get lost. I was worried about you.  Did I say that out loud???? HEHEHEHE!!!!

Wish you the best Higgy. Hope you can get yourself back to normal soon. Fire up the forge, that will make you feel better. :D

Higgy, Sounds like you found out about it at a good time. Thats nothing to take lightly. Glad to hear things are starting to turn around for you. Wish you the Best!

Jeff,
We don't know each other, but all the good vibes I can muster from here are headed your way. I know it's a hell of a battle.
Good thoughts from this forge, Fred :D :D :D

Jeff

I fight the same battle constantly. I manage to stay ahead of it as long as I can stay off the carbs-especially grains.

I had a little episode starting about Thanksgiving that lasted a couple of months, where I cheated regularly and gained back some weight and glucose and started feeling bad. With me it's low energy, neuropathy, alergies and attitude. It sure is hard to get myself started back on the right course. The alternative sucks though.

Good luck and keep on pluggin' at it.

Thanks, Fellas. It means a lot to me. All I have before me is making a new life, and making the healthy things a consciousness instead of a conscious event. Soon as I get situated, I'll be back in the shop. Meanwhile, I'll be checking in here every day! :D

Hey IG, next time I come down, you better have soem salad ready! Woohoo!

Yay, I just love salad. :grumpy:

My dad has type II diabetes. The adjustment was really hard for him, but after 6 months or so he got it down and doesn't even have to take medicine for it anymore. Retiring has helped him a lot too. I'm sure it will go better for you when you switch over to knifemaking. The stress and the schedule of work(working for someone else) doesn't go very well with being a diabetic.

YUMMY! New Bedford grass, flavored by the salty sea air. I can't wait! Can I add a little relish to it? :D

I would advise not to eat it after the Hammer-In. You never know where them Drunked Knifemakers PISSSSSS. HEHEHEHE!!! :barf: :D

Been there and done that Higgy, A type 2 for about 11 or 12 years and just went on the needle last year and now that was a change. Much better I feel so much better now I wish I had done it several years ago. I use the Atkins diet and it works great but I can't keep from cheating like yesterday Pan Cakes and real Maple syrup knocked me out for all day. I might learn maybe and maybe not.
Take care Gib

I can relate, Gib.

Being a New Englander, there's a pizza parlor around every block. Tough to break those old eating habits, but I feel like I have to until I shed another 20-30 pounds. Maybe then I can cheat a little bit once in a while.
