I made a knife sale to a fellow forum member for a BATAC LE and dropped it off at the post office a little over a week ago. Yesterday he asks about the knife and I go scrambling for the postal paperwork on it. This afternoon I receive a mangled box returned to me as undeliverable. The box was open with part of the front missing, the part with the purchaser's address. I pull out the knife, still wrapped in paper and when I get it out it is still perfect!! This is probably the first time I've had a missing package incident end up with a happy ending. The USPS will get another chance Monday and I won't get over this one until I get the 'mission accomplished' from the purchaser.

whew!!!

my heart would have skipped several beats when the mangled box showed up!

could have been MUCH worse... Thank God the knife was still THERE :thumbup:

hope the buyer is patient...

Suggestion: any package you send, put a note inside, wrapped up with the knife, with the addressee's name & address, just as it is on the outside of the package.

Torn up or illegible addresses go to a "dead letter" office where they look for an inserted address to send it on to. Not a bad idea to have a return address inside on the same note ...

This is why I always stick an extra piece of cardboard or paper inside the box with the recipient's address.

Maybe I should start putting in several....and gluing them to various locations on the inside.

Aww, heck. We all know it wouldn't work. Sometimes the USPS is just 'in a mood.'

My trick, i write it on the box in a few places. I once had an auto part go out, where i write the info, and then UPS guy made the label and glued over my label,... long story short, copied wrong.

Address on 2 sides, nice and big,... plus any UPS tag on the third side...

I think I'll borrow some parts of IB's method.

Anything to improve the chances of success.

Thanks, IB!

Glad it turned out well.

Good ideas about putting an address inside.

There are some great ideas posted here:
  • Include address written on a note inside the box
  • Write the reciepient's addy on the flip side of the box.

I am glad that everything will work out.

Now Cobalt will be gone for a week searching the Postal dead letters.

depending on how expensive the shipping is, fedex may be more reliable. at very least they are much, much more trackable
