I lost my Spyderco Delica and now looking for replacement with price similar to Delica. I made the following choice:
1. Spyderco Delica
2. Something from Benchmade
3. Victorinox Trekker - good blade profile, but no clip.
4. Buck-Strider - wanted to buy before, I had Delica at that time.

What will be your recommendaiton? My requirements:
1. Price close to the price of Delica
2. Convenience to use by left handed person
3. Convenient to carry (lightweight and "disappering in the pocket" quality)
4. Good warranty, at least similar to Spyderco
5. Convenience to use in the kitchen and while I am camping/hiking
6. Easy to sharpen on Spyderco Tri-angle or Gatco Tri-Seps

I know Buck-Strider is hardly in price range of Delica, but if it is comfortable in kitchen, camping/hiking I will definitely consider it (Delica costs £55 in the UK, so it is almost $100 US). Also, Delica was not that comfortable in the kitchen, camping/hiking, therefore I am considering another knife.

I plan to the knife from ebay or from this forum. These knives I found on ebay:

If you know a knife which meets my requirements, but not in my list, please let me know.

Also, I wonder about Doug Ritter Benchmade. It is quite similar to Benchmade Griptilian, at least the same handle as I can see, but different blade shape and material. Could you tell me if the shape of the blade on Doug Ritter knife is much better that it is worth paying extra? I am quite happy with 440C steel, so it is not an issue for me, but the price.

Regards,

P.S.: I would love to own Rat Trap ;) , but I guess I won't find any for under $100 :( ...

As a fellow left-handed, of the ones you listed, for best all around use I would look at something from Benchmade, maybe a griptillian.

The new delicas are coming out soon, the don't have the long sharp point but will have screws instead of rivits and liners! There is also a fancy schmancy steel version as well (zdp or something like that)

The Ambush is a lot of knife for the money. Opening it feels a little odd (You have to overcome some resistance) but it is certainly solid feeling. The Grip is a little smoother and 440C probably a tad better than AUS8 but I dare say there won't be much in it.

Have you thought of a Native?

The Buck Strider (880) is a nice knife, its a little boxy but surprisingly comfortable. Its not well suited to kitchen work however.

Have you thought about the Camillus knives? IIRC you can remove the spring from them so that they are not semi-auto (assist) although, considering you are looking at locking knives anyway, you are already on the wrong side of the law for EDC. The Camillus have to be some of the most under rated knives available. They are fantasic quality for the money.

I like Lonewolf's T2. I know that NG has said that they dont stop them anymore because of QC but I have yet to see/handle a bad one. IMHO they are just the right weight, blade length and thickness (both blade and handle) if you can handle one I strongly suggest that you do.

Yes, I am narrowing my choice now:
1. Delica - probably will soon be out of the list
2. mini Doug Ritter
3. Benchmade Griptilian
4. Rat Trap - expensive, therefore close to be out of my list too. I like its pedigree, but it will be expensive loss... Also, I do not know how convenient this knife will be in the kitchen/field. Though I try to persuade myself - if I buy it, then I will not need to buy Busse Skeleton Key for my wife for shooting bow - I will give her my BA3 and use Rat Trap to take arrows from trees.
I did not look at Camillus knives at all, actually. Now I checked ebay - large Camillus Sierra looks quite nice. How does it work in the kitchen/field?
Thanks,

I have a Delica and the Benchmade Griptillians offered by Cabellas, both large and small. Of those 3, I would pick the Delica. I like the lockback better, and the hole also. The BM's are ok, but the ergonomics on the Delica work better for my hand, and they don't tear up my pockets upon removal.

What about the Buck Strider 889 about $50.00 built like a tank. Mine carries easy. I also have Benchmade D2 Griptillian from Cabalas. It is my EDC. I had a Delicia but didn't care for it. I prefer the Endura model better. I think all 3 are good buys.

How about a Spyderco native. Wally world has them for $39.95 with S30V steel, and it has a reversible pocket clip. Alot of bang for the buck...Jim

I like the buck/strider myself just for the overall handle design its jus what I like, he native is also a very good buy, had to buy 3 for me.
