Which 1-piece next?

After watching the CRK DVD, I want another 1-piece knife. But of course I can't decide. The only one I have is a Mountaineer I and I want something larger. I can't decide to get a 5.5" or a 9", a clip point or spear point. And I guess the Sable is an option as well, or even the 9" Tanto. And then there's the 7.5" Project odd-balls now offered in plain edge. Too many choices!

Watching Chris use a Shadow I as a camp knife was impressive. He said the weight of the tip on the spear point is good for chopping. I just am afraid a 9" blade may be too big for anything other than camping, like a day hike. The 9" seems to offer the biggest performance, and a 5.5" I think would be better at smaller tasks and not good for something like chopping. Ideally, Chris says, outdoors carry a 9" and a Large Sebenza. I guess the 5.5" would be ideal for carrying one knife instead of two.

The logical collector would say get them all, but I can only afford one at a time. So, what size and what style next? Let's get a vote!

Thanks :)

When I started acquiring the OPR, my top priority was obtaining a Shadow I. As a user, my favorite's a Sable IV.

I like the Shadow IV. I was looking at one at Plaza Cutlery today and was real close to pulling the trigger on this one. I like the 5.5 inch blade length. I may go by and pick it up next week. It's not too big to carry but big enough to do what I think I would need. But Chris really knows what he is talking about so I would give a lot of weight to what he says. As for the Shadow IV, I like the whole package. The way it feels in my hand, the sheath and the price is very reasonable. I currently have no one peice knives and I think that this one would be a good start.

You GOTTA check-out the Sable I.

I got one about a year and a half ago. I've bought quite a few knives since then and been to a couple shows and handled many knives since then and STILL haven't been as impressed. (I even have a limited S30V Nkonka.)

The Sable I is impressive by ANY standard, and you have to at LEAST handle one in your lifetime.

It's my favorite knife of all time.

I just got a Shadow IV,great knife.I have it in a kydex sheath, need to figure out what the stock the handle with.

I just received the DVD yesterday and watched about half of it...After watching it my mouth was watering for more CRK Knives and BAM it hit me that this is a great marketing tool. I had just paid $30 for a DVD that makes me want to spend hundreds more....

That said, I am thinking about the Mountaineer 1. A 4" blade is all I really want right now.

I totally agree. That DVD is the Siren's song for the CRK fan; your wallet is screwed after watching.

I have a MT1. It's a great little knife. It's perfect if you want something the size of a Large Sebenza but a fixed blade. Though, the Seb is thinner and therefore better at slicing. But for anyone who prefers a fixed blade for an EDC or a day hike knife, the MT1 is the one.

As much as I want something like a Shadow I, getting a Green Beret would be far less of the same compared to my MT1. So I'm leaning towards one of those at the moment. I just wish I could get it without serrations like how the Project I and II are now offered. Eventually, I'll have all the CRK's I want, so I guess it' doesn't matter which I get next. But, that said, the Green Beret is more interesting to me after watching the DVD.

Jediknight86,

Thanks for the info on the Mountaineer 1. It sounds like what I'm looking for...a small FB for day hikes.

And yes, the wallet is in trouble.
:)

So my mind has wandered away from the Green Beret... now I'm back on the Shadow I or Project I special (no serrations)....

I should just close my eyes, point, click, and order.

You won't be sorry acquiring the Shadow I. If I could have only 1 CRK fixed blade, it would be that one.

Well I got a Shadow I! Man what a knife! I can't imagine anything topping this as an overall big f-ing knife. I just am having trouble finding uses for it other than chopping wood, haha. Now I need a Shadow IV or a Mk VI to complete the collection I think.

I've decided that the Shadow IV will be my first one piece. I was going to go for one of the 4 inch blades but I think that my large Sebenza is just about that length and could handle about the same chores. The Shadow IV at 5.5 inches will be a nice step up. Plus I like the sheath. Seems like a no lose situation for me! :D

Excellent Choice!! I just love all mine, I would not venture into the outdoors without it!
