Hi All,

Just trying to complete the list of the 10xx steels known/confirmed to be used in knives.

If you run this query on the steel composition chart it returns 15 alloys: 1044, 1045, 1050, 1055, 1060, 1070, 1074, 1075, 1078, 1080, 1084, 1086, 1090, 1095 and 1095 CroVan, which is proprietary.

For those 14 AISI 10xx steels I have information they are used in knives. Do you guys know about any other AISI 10xx steel which was/is used in any type of a knife?

We all know that 1095 is used.
edited to add this line: 1095 Cro Van does not count. It is an alloy steel, not a carbon steel.

The Browning® Crowell and Barker Competition Knife is made from 1085.

It is rumored, but not confirmed, that some of the German pocket knives are made with 1075

Some of the Cold Steel throwing knives are made from 1055.

I've not seen any company state that they used carbon steel with carbon content lower than that of 1055. There might be some that use 1050. I have a hard time believing that anyone makes a decent knife out of any carbon steel with less carbon than that.

My KA-BAR Kukri Machete is made from 1085, at least that was what the description said on the product description page.

My Becker BK-7 & BK-9 are both made with 1095 CroVan

My Izula is 1095

Guys, thanks for the data!

My bad I guess I've phrased the question in a wrong way. The steels I've listed are the ones already in the steel chart and I already have info about them.
What I was looking for if the rest of the AISI 10xx, NOT IN the list, were ever used in the knives.

Hardheart, do you know what standard or which maker's name is XC70 for 1065? Efunda has nothing, nor any other public source I can look at. Looks like AFNOR name?

I was missing 1065 and 1085 in the original list. So, that one was added to the chart.
Revised list would be:
1044, 1045, 1050, 1055, 1060, 1065, 1070, 1074, 1075, 1078, 1080, 1084, 1085, 1086, 1090, 1095

Those are the ones I know are used in knives and they're in the steel chart already.

If there is any other AISI 10xx steel not in this list, but used in the knives that's what I wanted to find out.

1095 CroVan I mentioned because query returns it with the 10* mask :)
