Which 110: AG, BP, Custom BG-42?

I have read up as much as I could on S30V, CPM154, and BG-42, but I still don't know which way to go. I can afford the $65-$104 ONE of the knives would run, but not all three. Sure, I would probably continue to use my regular 110's as EDC before I ever use one of them... but you never know. Yes, I did get a 110AG already - with that S30V blade - and I cannot stand the temptation to use it. Another 110AG would be a 'looker', as likely either the Bass Pro or custom Buck would be. I know the BG-42 is more 'dear', cost-wise, but is it better? Is the harder BP's CPM154 steel sharper? Please help me decide... my wife threw a vote in for the AG110 - she said the one I have is beautiful.

Help! (??)

Get another 110AG.

From personal experience...

1> You will get a 110BP.
2> Won't want to use it as you won't initially have another of the same.
3> You will get a 110 BG-42.

I have one 110BP. Has never cut anything. Had it modifed by Muskrat though. Here is a link with pics of it: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4665463#post4665463

Have a EDC 110AG and BG-42.
My preference for use is the BG-42.
No tech or scientific reason...just like it.

well ... much depends on what your edc use is...
out doorman stuff were water is i still vote for S30V..
i have not tryed the bg 42 on much as i dont have more then one...
damascuss cuts like no one else's busness! has its drawbacks ...
s30v i realy like useing for a lot use it and for get it stuff ..
for hard construction site use ya jest cant beat the old simi grind with its thicker edge!!!

Yeah, Damascus would be nice. I only have one knife in that metal - a huge Bear & Sons Bowie with a cocobolo handle - a $100 bargain. Made in Jax, AL - shipped to TN - then back 'home' to AL, At 14", a bit big for an EDC... but great bargain in Damascus syeel per pound! I noticed that the Custom Knife choices on the Buck site on the 110 don't highlight the Damascus choice... do they offer it even occasionally nowadays?

I think Gooses' post is right on ;)
But my vote is go for another 110AG, I dont think you will be sorry!

Well, it may just be the 110AG. I tried ext 270 at Buck - to see if I could leave my custom order and MC # - I'm still paranoid re the web. The voicemail I left, with my name, reason for the call, and number, was for 'Victoria', I think, in early afternoon. No call back yet - I may try again in the AM. If no success, I'll go to Cabela's - I have a $20 off $150 purchase coupon - and, believe it or not, their s/h makes lead bullet orders attractive... and I need some plinker bullets.

Good grief you can shave with that 110AG - the S30V steel in my Spyderco Native is nearly as sharp - NEARLY. No one heaped praise on the 110BP with that CPM154... Thanks for any/all help.

...That gooser sure knows how to get the blood flowin' don't he??...LMAO...The "lil' lady" watches when I'm in the forum to see what kine trail that...(as she calls him)..."Goosaholic fella" is gonna lead me down next...LMBO...:p:p:D

Ha Ha Ha! Thought that picture, which I had already seen, I think, would influence ME?? Well... they said it's scheduled delivery date would be Sept 24. That's what they call 'tear drop Damascus', from a 'smith in NY? I opted for that flamed Koa wood. I have some Puma's with stag... but nothing with that Koa... it - and the maple burls - look interesting. Thought about putting 'John is Crazy!' on it... maybe 'Blood Loss'. Since that won't come home anytime soon (sob sob) - and they told me the 408 Kalinga Pro was having rosewood grip problems, delaying it for a bit yet, I may just have to order another 110AG...

LOL Decaf and Doc D... :)
I really love that DamBuck...but, sometimes kine wish I didn't get the bolsters engraved.
But it does give me me-bumps too Dave.
D, tell the Mrs, that this forum is a "12 Step Program"...and you are still learning to fight the temptation and your forum brothers are posting pics to make you stronger. She will believe that.

Stainz, I am looking forward to the pic of your Koa 110. Did you get silver or brass? Pin or no pin? Finger grooves? Keep us posted

My Dam Buck will be a 110 Koa with Ni & pins - no f.g.. Six weeks from Monday... not that I am counting the days...

You guys are killing me with all these great 110 pictures. Starting to pop in here almost daily to ogle them isn't helping much considering I am waiting on a Asian with brass and BG-42. Hoping to visit the plant around the 21st or 22nd of this month when on vacation.

Buck seems to have some very classy people working there, nothing but good experiences to report from my limited contact with Pete. Very nicely done, thank you.

Hey Goose do you have a pic of the other side of this one.Just wandered if
it in ingraved on both sides?
Jeff

Hey Jeff...
Here is the other side. Not the best pic, but ya can see that I didn't graffiti the other side ;)

Hi Jimbo...
I have an 110 BG-42 NS Asian FG that is somewhat "contraversial" on this forum so far as being liked or disliked. It's kine milky. But I like it.
Please post pics when you get your's :)

You were able to place an order for a 110 with a Damascus blade  I try to order 1 every few days...and it's never in stock:(

OK Goose, I'll give it a try when I get it. If I'm successful, it will be my first photos posted so it'll be somewhat appropriate. Probably all downhill after that, :D. Kinda thinking of what the next custom should be.

Unless I've missed my guess, is that Devin Thomas raindrop damascus on the above pictures? That is certainly close to being my next custom shoppe, that or something from Kirby Lambert.

I believe that my 110 will have tear drop Damascus - Thomas does sound familiar... is he the 'smith from NY?

I guess I just hit them on a good day. What other 'styles' of Damascus do they use? Is it carbon or SS? How do the edges hold up? That's probably important, as I likely will try, at most, to 'shave' with it... maybe, gads, cut paper! The 512 layer that Bear & Son Cutlery (Jax, AL) makes is like the traditional Damascus - it will never be razor-shaving sharp, but it will cut through wood, etc, like a chain saw.

If I was lucky, it was the first time in a while. I, or, rather, my birthday, did 'draw' a high lottery number in the draft lottery many, many moons ago. My brother wrote me to tell me - I was in boot camp - they had aready made me that job offer!

Good grief, six more weeks... maybe I should add a BG-42 one...

I know, what about that Bass Pro 110? How does it rate? I know, I need stuff from Cabela's... another 110AG is in order!

...Don't feel too bad Scott...I think I've been following up your calls on an almost daily basis as well with the same results you've had so far...:o...I have never yet even won a free lottery ticket......LOL...

Hey Stainz and Jimbo...

My raindrop is SS.
Here is a thread that shows Triple E's too: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=442142

I have also been waiting word on when more Damascus 110 blades will be ready.
Would like to try one of the new Damascus as an EDC.

Today, I decided to go back to my 1986 Buck 110 Damascus that was worked by Muskrat for my 110 EDC.

Am thinking of taking it (110 1986 Damascus) to Hawai'i for a week and see how it does in the salty humidity...this older one is certanly not SS...but may end up taking the 172 or, 110 BG-42 Koa (would be cool to take a pic of the Hawaiian Koa wood 110 back where the wood is endemic).

Regardless of which of those three goes, the 882SBTG is going.
