I originally started out collecting Buck pocket knives but have come to the realization I was in denial of my addiction....

I discovered today that I have a nice start on a collection of 100 series 2+2 spacer / 3 line read tip up knives.

Now the question. Would one of you please share with me how to identify the model 124 Frontiersman that would be correct for this series?

If my reading of prior posts is accurate we're talking 1973-1980 (and I shouldn't hold my breath looking for the 119)

You are getting into an expensive thicket. But they are beautiful knives.

Your time span covers actually two models.

In the attached picture the top knife is a 1973 of which there were actually four models. There was the partially serrated Nemo with wide grained Grey-Black Micarta slabs; the plain edged frontiersman with wide grained grey black Micarta slabs; the (pictured) frontiersman with black micarta slabs, and a very few with burgundy micarta slabs. the first three have a very blocky handle with a lanyard hole in the pommel. The fourth one, (within your range of 1973-1980) which is the bottom knife in the picture has a more tapered handle and no lanyard hole in the pommel. I should, for the sake of accuracy, add that the only difference between the Frontiersman and the Nemo is the sheath: the Nemo has a plastic diver's sheath and the frontiersman has a leather sheath, thus you could find both grey black serrated and unserrated knives in 1973.

OK, thanks. Do I understand correctly that it will be micarta only during this time period, no phenolic or birch?
Were spacers ever used on the 124 at either end of the handle during this time period?
