Recommendation? Which 2.5” Folder?

Thinking my next purchase should be a nice little 2.5” blade for places like Boston where they get a bit grumpy about knives that actually resemble knives. Going in snd out of some cities, it’s just nice not to have to think about it.

And it rationalizes another knife purchase.

Very light duty knife. Packages, letters, maybe cutting twine (or fishing line) snack foods, etc.

The Dragonfly is the obvious choice, but it is just too small for my hands. I know, I have two of them. I’d also like something a little “nicer.”

I’m having trouble choosing between the following:

Fox Baby Core (liner lock carbon fiber)
Kizer Yorkie (liner lock carbon fiber)
Kizer Yorkie (frame lock blue Ti)
Spyderco Lil Native (compression lock G10)
Quiet Carry Eddy (liner lock G10)

I don’t have a Fox and like CF so the Baby Core would be nice. I like Laconico designs and both the Yorkies are compelling. The compression lock is great and the Lil Native should be just slightly bigger in hand than the Dragonfly. But the Eddy is available in LC200n so could do double duty as a fishing knife (and to me is cooler than my Spydie Salts.)

The Lil Native and the Eddy aren’t as “dressy” as the others but both are way ahead of the Dragonfly in terms of aesthetics, IMO, with the Eddy edging out the Lil Native. The Fox & Kizers are more “business casual” to me; the Spydie and QC more jeans knives.

Not picky about the steels, but the Eddy could do beach duty. I don’t think I’d do that with the others.

Thoughts? Anyone have experience with any of these?

Don't have experience with those but I got my wife this twosun ts158 and I like it a lot for a small knife. Carbon fiber and titanium with m390 steel. Great action, smooth and locks up solid as a bank vault. 2 3/4" blade with 2.5" cutting edge. Just over 6" overall. I cant find one listed now though but they have a lot of really cool smaller knives. And I know not everyone likes it but I like that they list on the bay, sometimes you score a really good price for what your getting.

Lok at the CS Holdout 3. The blade seems a bit shorter than the stated 3 inches. Thin flat grind and great slicer. 4 inch handle for a very secure grip.Very light and very strong.
Is a short 3 inch blade too big for your locale?

I only have experience with the Lil' Native, but I can't recommend the comp lock version. The heel of the blade is right up there under the cutout for the lock, and I found it much too easy to casually contact it. Nice knife otherwise.

The Hold Out 3 is a nice knife for concealed carry, if your primary interest is in SD, but it's nothing like the knives in the OP's list.

I just sold a Hold Out 3 in AUS8 (the steel used on earlier models) on EB where's selling at a "premium" to it's original MSRP & street price. Offered it on the Exchange at a lower price but there was no interest in it here. Later Hold Out 3's that used better steels are now worth even more.

So, I doubt that it would be something the OP would be interested in based on its design and its current 2ndary market price.

It is 2.4”, but the Kizer Microlith in CF is a surprisingly good knife. I carry it in the 5th pocket, and for a little knife, the action and handling are impressive.

great thread, I'm interested also...

surprizing about aus8 being so shunned, it's really rather good for low cost, again, like most steel can be when heat treated properly

for me, I've been thinking of non folding 2.5" blades, since its so small why bother folding it?... small leather slips & leather side carry setups etc can be really quite nice

so the condor pygmy is high on my radar - love micarta, 1075 is tough plain carbon steel but I hate "Black Traction Powder Coating" on the blade... that was the only deal breaker for me, would love one plain / satin or stonewash, whatever

if you wanted stainless, and I might just end up with this,
casstrom safari, also 2.5" blade, but in 12c27 sandvik stainless

I'm a sucker for curly birch like this

I like the Kizer Yorkie. Personally, I love the one with the black micarta handle. I'm a micarta fan.

I know you are probably looking for a more expensive toy but if you want a sheeple/police friendly knife, you can't go wrong with a Swiss Army knife.
The Climber has a 2.5" blade for example. The other tools might come in handy for fishing and other chores.

Heck, if you go with the cheapest Yorkie, you get could it AND the Climber ...

I have a Kershaw Scallion (2.25”) as well as a Fox Baby Core (2.375”).

There’s nothing not to like about either, but my vote would go to the Baby Core.

May I recommend the Spyderco Cat? Very underrated knife.

Image blatantly stolen from google.

Have fun shopping.
I was just going to suggest that. Now with the steel upgrade it is more appealing than ever. This knife has it all: G10, liners, good steel, appropriate sized blade, good edge geometry, great slicer, needle point. What is not to love?
