I have a hardcore and a burrking. I am only going to keep one. Which one would you keep and why? They are the same hp and vari. speed.

Whichever one you like best is a terrible machine and a blight on the earth. Send it to me and I'll dispose of it properly.... :D

In all seriousness though, why get rid of one? Why not evaluate which operations you prefer on which machine and set them both up? If one is better for a bit of finish work you do for example, set it up for that and leave it, then when it's time to do that work, step to that grinder and save setup time.

Just a thought...

I can only wish I had a second machine, because it would speed up the work. I would use both machines by having them set up with different grits for grinding. For example; as I work on blades, I may have machine 1) set up with a 120 grit, and machine 2) with a 220 grit. That way I could go from one grit size to the other without always having to change the belt.

I, too, don't see why you'd want to get rid of one. It's very handy to have two (or more). Most guys I know (knifemaker types, that is) have at least two 2 x 72 machines.

Yep, I have only two. Wish I had more. George Herron has seven! I have one set up for slack belt and flat platen work. The other for hogging, and hollow grinding. Wouldn't dream of selling one! Mike

was goigtno say you suck for having 2
if you need to rid yourself of one then i ll try to find space in the shop for it
not sure what i would do with it but i ll do somehting
eheheheh

Yep my second KMG is on the way, it was a dream to have a second grinder in the shop. If you must part with one for reasons other than you really do not need it well i would re-evaluate that one becuase once its gone the remorse may set in quickly.

But i know lots of folks would step up and take it off your hands faster than you can change speeds on the thing.

I would get rid of the burr king, especially if it is a 960 send it to me I promice to give her a good home.

What everyone else said. You won't get half of what it's worth if you sell it used. Keep them both. I would go one for hollow, the other for flat. But if you only hollow or flat, you could set them up for different speeds/grits.

I know Jim is new here, welcome to BF, but to ask a question and disappear is, well, not too cool. Why do you need to get rid of one???

I would keep them both and get another one or two :D

Not to be an a-hole or anything, but I'm thinking that he doesn't have either grinder and is just pulling our chain to see what kind of responses he gets..:jerkit:

I'm only a hobby maker with a KMG, OK, a pair of KMGs :) I bought the second one as it was a smokin deal and local. I fully intended to resell it to a young maker near me that couldn't afford the machine when it came up for sale, but I'll be damned if I'll give it up now. Having two grinders makes life so much easier to me when I really get in the groove.
