Which ~4" Combat Fixed Blade???

Off the top of my head:

  • Grayman Suenami or Dinka
  • SOG Pentagon or Seal Pup
  • ZT 121
  • Benchmade Nimravus Cub
  • Spyderco Street Beat

The Emerson is a good choice. Keep looking, you'll find one.

Its a looooong list... ;)

Open for suggestions!

So far I like the Emerson PUK (Police Utility Knife), but doesn't look like many places have them in stock....

Well...I have never really been into fixed blades. Here in Calif, one can carry a 4" folder concealed (3" in some localities), so most of my attention has been in that area all these years!

It is not legal to carry a fixed blade concealed (unless it isn't within easy reach, like inside a backpack), so I don't really have much occation to ever carry a fixed blade.

The one exception is outdoors I carry a "survival" knife. For light packing, the Fallkniven F1, and for heavier travel the S1. So, in a sense I am trying to fill a "gap in my collection". I really like the size of the F1 (~4"), but it would make a poor "tactical" knife....

I have looked at the Nimravis, but it has a rather thin blade (0.115").

What do you mean by "poor" tactical knife? What are you going to do with your knife that a Fallkniven F1 or S1 can not do?

I get an allergic reaction from the "tactical knife" mumbo jumbo. What do you use a knife for? cutting things. To do that you need a sharp edge that stays sharp for a long time.
Digging, prying, killing, bending etc. are done with tools made for that purpose.
Also remember that you are to carry it all the time. A knife is as useful as the Swiss Navy in a sea battle if you leave it behind because it is to heavy to carry around.

Go and get yourself a couple of Mora 2000 knives. They are neither combat, nor tactical, nor macho, but just butt ugly and practical. Strap one to your combat west, put two in your pack and throw the rest around where you stay.

No "SUPER STEEL" here but just as good a Configuration as the PUK....These Bucks are tough but inexpensive!!! (Buck 655 Nighthawk)

You could always try the "Extrema Ratio" line as well. Super Tough Knife!!!!(Shrapnel N690Co)

x2 on those. I don't currently own one, but probably will pick one up this hunting season. They aren't as tacticool as a lot of other blades, but the handle is nice, and they get the job done.

The Fallkniven's are great for dressing out a deer (under no stress), but if you had to defend yourself with one with a stab, your hand would likely run right off the end and you would severing your own fingers. They just don't contain the necessary features.

A "tactical" knife, has features that will help keep your hand back off the blade. Look at the Nimravis pictures above, and there is a great example of what I mean....serated thumb ramp, a hook at the back of the blade, a hole for the index finger, etc.

If you need a tactical knife, then you'll need tactical gloves too :p

Seriously, do you just want it as a collection or are you going to EDC it? If you want a tactical knife, wouldn't it be better to have a thin blade than a thick one? What handles you have on the F1? I get a good enough grip with my thermorun ones...

Entrek Cobra or JAG are good choices. Good steel, good company, and very well made.

SOG Seal Pup Elite. Light, grips well and very sharp. Three important attributes for a combat knife

While certain municipalities may have blade length limits, the state of Calif doesn't. You can carry a folder of any blade length & you can actually carry a FB, it just can't be concealed.
