which 94x osborne?

The 940 is a "Reverse Tanto" tip, where the 943 is the clip point. The 940's tip is beefier and can take a little more abuse than the clip point. Really, you can't go wrong with either one. Just pick whichever you think looks the coolest.

what about the 941 and 942?

Same as 940 and and 942 except have black coated blades. I love my 940 and so does my girlfriend. I have to keep a close watch on it when she's around.

A couple of nights ago we went out for steaks and I let her use my 940 on her steak. I've never seen anyone smile so much over a steak. The steaks were delicious BTW.

I like the 940. When's the last time you saw a folder with a reverse tanto blade?

I prefer the 940 over the 941/943 based mostly on looks, too. I like the green handle with the black coated blade even when the coating is mostly worn away. I like the looks of a heavily used knife. As far as the shape of the blade, the 940 is just different. I like different.

For those of you that have both, does the 941/943 flick open and closed as well as the 940? My wife has a 921 and it doesn't flick quite as easily as my 940. I attribute this to the fact that the 921 has less blade mass. If I'm right, then I would think the 941/943 would also flick less easily.

Well, all of the 94X models have .115" thick blades, whereas the 921 is only .10" thick. The difference, if any, between the reverse-tanto and the clipoint on the 94Xs is likely minimal. Although the reverse-tanto will have a bit more material at the tip (farthest from the pivot) which might add a bit more swingability.

I prefer the 941 prsonally.. The 941 opens and closes exactly the same as the 940

I like my 943. Just wish it had a purple anodized back spacer rather that the blue. But I liked the blade shape on this one.

Let's sum up:
  • 940: Reverse Tanto blade, green handles
  • 941: Clip blade, green handles
  • 942: Reverse Tanto blade, black handles
  • 943: Clip blade, black handles
Within those models, there are variations with black-coated blade (BT suffix) and/orpartial blade serrations (S suffix): a 941BT would have green handles, black coated clip blade, no serrations (just like mine!); a 942S would have an uncoated reverse tanto blade, black handles, and serrations.
