I just got a sharpmaker 204 and I would like to know what angle the edge of spyderco knives are 30 or 40?

On the Video Sal says that they come out of the factory at around 30 and recommends that you sharpen them at 40.

to be a little more explicit, because the spyderco factory edge is already narrow enough, you don't need to hone down to 30 to get a good clean edge at 40. 40 is the edge you want, and if you are sharpening a spyderco, you don't need to cut down to 30 to have results on it. some blades require being cut down to 30 so they'll take 40, which as sal explains in the video, is a pretty practical optimal edge for general use.

It also depends on the knife. On say a Pro Grip I go 40.On my Military I go 30.

I don't think all spydies are 30. Some are 40, I think. The thinner blade ones are 30. Either way, in order to extract the best performance, I would usually lower the edge angle to just under 30 on my edgepro, then sharpen/maintain it with the sharpmaker at 30, then strop. Sharp!
