I love the coolness factor of automatic knives and have decided that it is time to get one. the only problem is I dont know which one. I really dont want to spend more than $150(but that doesn't mean that i wont

) and would preffer to keep it under $100. Any suggestions? I want something that opens with a great a lot of force and holds up well, since i will no doubt be playing with it constantly

. I saw the benchmark auto, any comments? Thanks for all of the help.

Hi there!
I think you're gonna be SOL for less than $100. Most you'll get is a real POS.

You might try posting at the Automatic Forum, located at: This thingie, since ParcelMasterofLocking/Moving?FornicatingwithPosts will wind up doing something with this here thing anyhoo.....

Wondering why I can't type "SHlT" here,
I remain,

How about a Microtech UDT? They can be had for around $100. Absolutley top rate.

Another option is the new auto from Pro-tech. There is a pic and more info at this link:

I don't have any experience with them so I am reluctant to offer my seal of approval

but others seem to think they are promising.

Though I find them to be a tad on the small side (blade length around 2.75"), a new MicroTech UDT may be just the ticket for you. It opens super fast, locks up very tight with outstanding fit and finish, and can be easily bought online for about $110. It's a good piece of gear.

Both the MT UDT, and mini-Socom autos can be had for $120.
I think you can get a Socom Elite for about $170 if you want something bigger.
You might check the for sale forums for good prices, too.

MicroTech is definitely the way to go. The UDT is a fantastic knife, the price is right, and the one's with the colored-handles make it seem more acceptable to non-knifeknuts.

Make sure you thoroughly understand both Federal, State, and local laws regarding the shipment, ownership, and carry of automatic knives. Purchasing an auto knife may be difficult for civilians, as there are restrictions on both makers and sellers as well as buyers. I think these laws are silly, and reflect a lack of understanding on the part of lawmakers, but they are reality. Be aware.

I do not see the need to move this thread to the auto forum. You will get more knowledgable answers about these kinds of knives there, but I see nothing wrong in talking about auto knives here either. Please do not discuss anything that could construed as criminal conduct in these forums, for everyone's sake

Paracelsus, thanking VG for giving me sh|t and sorely tempting me to recommend a change in his medication.

The people steering you towards Microtech are giving you excellent advice. Be forewarned, once you get one you will have to buy more.
They can be addictive.

If the one Serpent I got is any indication of the quality and durability to the others in his line, Robbie Dalton has lots to choose from for under $150. I use my Dalton Serpent every day. Still tight, good grind, good heat treat, fits my hand like a glove, and looks good. I can see some minor machine grind marks, but is quick and smooth. Only problem is the spring broke. However, that's to be expected sooner or later, and easily replaced coil.

If you wish to spend more, the consenses is Microtech. Never owned one, but will get around to it someday. Since I like my Dalton so much, just haven't been in a hurry to get MT yet.

Best regards,

eq

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like Microtech is the way to go. I didnt mean to upset anyone or "ruffel any feathers" by posting here. I honestly never noticed an auto knife forum. I appologize for any problems or mistakes I have caused or made. I also would not do anything illeagel and also would not talk about any criminal actions (mainly because I would never engage in them). Sorry again for any problems. -Lev

There was and is NO problem Lev. I'm glad you are getting the information you want

Hang on a second there you Master of Acronyms you, I remember people saying a while back that the Piranha auto's at 1SKS were fairly good little autos.

And I've got a couple Italian stilettos(aquired legally, of course
wink.gif
) which didn't cost more than $50 and I'd say they're considerably better than POS's. Sure they come dull as butter knives but that doesn't mean they're not the fastest opening damn butter knives in town! Except for fancy those butter knives that don't have to open...um...like most of them...

Lev, if you buy the MT, you will buy more.

I second the notion for the UDT. I had one for a bit, and I traded it later to 2Sharp for some Benchmade stuff. I just grow tired of knives and trade them off. The only knife that I have owned for more than a year was a Gerber EZ-Out. I carried the same one for two years, and then bought a new one after I beat the crap out of the first one. Carried for another year, then my knife hobby really started to kick in and another year later, I've gone through about 20 knives or so for daily carry, finally ending up with the MT SOCOM M/A (with which I am very pleased).
