Which axe for me? Velvicut or BMC Hudson bay...

Looking for advice here. I know I want a Hudson Bay pattern, and I've narrowed it down to the BMC or Velvicut, since I want something a little nicer than my standard grade council tool 28" model. Now, as I see it the only difference is really the handle length. Since this will be primarily a pack tool, the velvicut, with the ~2" shorter handle seems logical. However, I was wondering what you all think. Help!

What I want is a higher end American made Hudson Bay pattern axe that I won't have to spend time on renewing it. My free time is limited as it is, and I'd rather spend it in the woods than in the shop fixing a vintage axe right now.

Thanks in advance

I think the Best Made is actually made by Council with the same 5160 steel. So shop based on price and handle length/style. I like the longer handle but I don't think it's worth an additional $125. I'd like to see the Velvi-cut HB offered with a longer handle.

The BMC HB is the Velvicut with a longer handle. Their unfinished version is only $10 more usually, but actually less until Sunday, according to their recent advertisement.

I have a HB with a longer handle now. I find that I leave it and bring a 14" hatchet instead. Just for ease of packing. I think I've made up my mind, but that sale had me thinking. Just ordered the Velvicut. I found a good deal, so I went for it.
