I am looking into getting a balisong. this would be my first one. 2 Valor Samurai Warriors, one 3 " blade and One 4" blade, Parker 4" blade, one Frost 3" blade and one Frost 4" blade or a Jaguar. which one would u recomend for someones first balisong. I want one thats not gonna break easy and last a long time. thanks Josh

Save your money and get a Benchmade 40 series bali, if you want something that won't break and will be around a long time. I've heard that dealer price is under $80 so you should be able to get a pretty good deal on one if you check around.

No offense, but this question gets asked A LOT. Heck! I've even asked it myself.

My suggestion...Don't be hasty. especially now. There are so many bali's on the market, most good, that if you pick it right(not a cheapie), you can't go wrong. So read up. Check the archives of this forum in particular. Every bali since 1976 has been discussed and reviewed beyond belief. I mean, who could talk about a KNIFE for days, just one knife? We can!

So, read up. Check out the manufacturers' web sites. Check dealers for deals.

But..if you want to be hasty and get one just 'cause you want to test it out, see if you like it...go get a $10 cheapie from your local military surplus store or flea market or martial arts store and swing it for a while. Check out Balisong Xtreme and see what can be learned and how fun this "hobbie" is.

Enjoy.

Dawkind: Where are the 40 series available for $80? I'm hopefully getting a Jag this Christmas just to see if I like flipping it, but I've always wanted a BM bali. Can you even name names at that price? :)

A recent For Sale posting in another forum had the seller asking only $75 for a used one. I picked up one from sn7 last Oct. for the $80 asking price. They're around. Just need to keep an eye out.

However, the most common price for a resell one is an even $100, and those come around more often. The Satin finish ones are only going for $106~$110 new, practically everywhere.

You can get any of those knifes with the puple/blue handles (model # followed by a) and also with black handles (model # followed by b).

If you search back in this forum you will find some links to sites with cheap prices.

Hope this helps.;)
