Which Becker/Becker combo for BOB and GHB?

Hey all, I'm a long-time lurker and infrequent poster, but I have a question that I didn't seem to find in any other threads. If you could choose any current production Becker (or combination of Beckers) to keep in a bail out bag or get home bag, which would you choose and why? The catch is you would have to carry your selection, along with a heavy pack full of other gear, for an indefinite length of time.

I do a lot of backpacking, and when I'm hiking 12-15 miles a day in rough terrain, every ounce counts. For this reason, I usually only carry my BK11 and a Leatherman Squirt PS4. I sometimes switch it out for my BK16, but honestly, the BK11 is enough for summer backpacking. I can process small pieces of wood, prepare food, and trim molefoam with it. When I go car camping, I bring my BK2 or BK9 to collect firewood. However, I'm sure there are plenty of other uses for knives in a disaster or survival scenario. Should I just keep my BK16 in my backpack along with all my other backpacking gear and call it good, or should I keep something beefy like the BK2 in there? What about the knives I haven't tried, like the BK10 and BK7? What about in my truck? Something to consider is that, like most people who really should be prepared for disaster scenarios, I live in an urban area. I also live in a major earthquake zone. If I actually need to bail out for a while, I probably won't be confined to bushcraft-only situations unless I'm already camping or am lucky enough to be able to go camping until things improve.

As much as I would love to bring all my knives with me, or bring at least two big knives, it's not gonna happen, and neither is bringing an axe or a hatchet (too much weight). I keep all my backpacking gear minus my sleeping bag and down jacket inside my backpack (easy storage plus it doubles as a BOB), and that is close to 40lbs with 3L of water. And yes, I am bored and stuck at home on my day off work, so I'm playing with my knives and camping gear.

So far your doin it the right way. A Bk16 is really all you need.

I myself only take a BK9 if I drive to my spot or the hike is only a mile or two.

I would never pack and carry a BK2, I have one but only use it around the houes.

90% of the time I carry only a Ka-Bar USMC which I may trade out for a BK7 or BK16, I have not yet decided.

For your truck I would get a Condor Golok.

The BK9 is my favorite knife but I would not carry it and another knife for 15 miles. Like I said, If I drive to my camp site I bring it and I use it a lot.

Let me restart this, If it si a BOB then I do want it with me along with a small knife but for general weekend camping I bring it but I do not hike long distances with it.

Your BOB needs a large chopper and a medium untilty knife and a small pocket knife. This is BOB not hiking. Your BOB also needs a firearm and bullets.

I must admit, the BK9 is one of my favorites and is a great chopper. The more I think about a BOB the more I have a hard time picturing an event where I wouldn't just drive somewhere and live out of my truck for a little while or on the way to an out of state relative's house...I guess the BOB just makes getting ready to go easier. Seeing that I probably wouldn't do much hiking or walking with it (unless gas stations are overrun by zombies) it's probably safe to throw the BK9 and a BK11 in the pack. But would the BK2 be advantageous as a prybar and decent chopper?

This pack needs to stay CA legal, unfortunately, and that pretty much rules out a firearm. I could carry one legally in a locked case in the bed, but it's not living in the BOB, and I wouldn't want to stray far from the truck with a firearm in there. If zombies do attack, however, then I expect I could spend an extra 30 seconds getting out a pistol.

For a BOB, I'd go with a BK9 or Machax and a Leatherman ST 300 in the sheath's pouch. Heavy, but rugged and affordable.

A BK16 or BK17 is more than enough for hiking (and actually a bit on the heavy side for some people). I'm a big fan of 4" to 5" knives for wilderness use.

I don't care to carry anything much bigger than a BK2. Too much weight and bulk for me. Great for in the vehicle, to take camping, or even in a BOB if you're not on foot, but not to carry for backpacking, hiking, etc. If planning to be on foot for an indefinite amount of time, that's way too much knife IMO.
I say BK2 for the big stuff and tweener (I like the 16) for everything else. I try to never be without a folder in my pocket, as well, but that becomes little more than a backup when outdoors.
