Which Becker Necker?

I have been eye-balling the Necker for a while and have a couple of questions. Now that these blades have been in circulation for a little bit, what is the consensus about the San Mai vs. the 1095 in terms of cost and performance?

Also, I have heard a couple of people say that the handles are on the smaller side, I have average size hands (M/L glove), do folks find them comfortable to use? Thanks in advance....

I've got the 1095 and to me the handle is just a bit on the short side. I guess I would be considered to have large hands since I wear a size large in gloves. Overall, it is a decent little knife, but it is a bit heavy to carry as a neck knife. I just got one of the RAT Izula knives and it is a sweet knife to carry. Amazingly sharp right out of the sheath, and wonderfully light. I definitely agree with their website though as far as carrying the knife around your neck. Knotted paracord is a great way to strangle yourself, use a cord lock.

the necker is a tough knife its is a little on the heavy side and the handle is a little short but not uncomfortable and you cant beat the price of the 1095 version

Wm,

Thanks. I'm with you on the neck wear, a knife has to be really light and small to be comfortable around the neck for any period of wear of time. I was planning on attaching the Necker to my edc Max Remora.

I hadn't actually looked at the Izula yet, might give it a glance too... Thanks for the cord lock tip too, will do, if I wear either around my neck!

I can't really comment on the San Mai.

I do have the 1095 version. Even with the cord wrap I do find it to be uncomfortable for extended use. And my hands are on the Small/medium size.

I carried mine as an EDC for a few months. As an "in town knife" with normal cutting chores the handle wasn't a problem at all for me.

But, I also used it as my only blade for hikes and general "bushcraft" practice.
The BK11 did everything well, making traps, spliting small diameter stuff, cross grain battoning branches ,saplings..etc.

This is where the handle becomes uncomfortable (to me). It certainly will work as a primary woods knife, but mine is used as a backup blade only.

I replaced it in my rotation with a couple of similar sized, but scaled , customs.

Yep, it is pretty big difference in price. Nothing wrong with 1095, and doesn't sound like the San Mai has grabbed the attention of folks here.

i think the san mai is just plain fugly. go with the U.S. made 1095.

Thanks, I think I will...

Looks like you have given that blade a little love. Based on the comments here, I think it will be attached to my Remora or 10 X 4 water bottle holder as a back-up. The Izula is not out of the running here either...

Yep....I use my knives.

I have posted these before...

My BK11 just after I got it, before I stripped it.

It will be a fine choice. Great knife, just not my idea of the "perfect" EDC or primary woods knife. The second knife down in my prior post is my "perfect" knife.( for now ;))

Yes it is. He calls it a Anniversary EDC. Mine is the only one out there with a 3" blade. The only other one he made has a 2 1/2" blade.
