Well as the title says this is another ( help me decide ) thread :). I am in need and desperate want of a new becker , the only real void in my gear is a stout general use fixed blade with a medium blade length. I have had my eye on the necker but then the tweeners:eek:. At the moment all i have is the camillus bk-7 and it's going in the pyre with me but i do have a void:D.

What are you wanting the BK to do for ya? I would say get one of each :D but we don't all need that many blades.

I personally love the 7 and 5. Both are good, no great, medium blades and you can't go wrong with those.

then get you a LE BK10. There are still a few available directly from KaBar. They are $150 and come with micarta. There are a bunch of recent threads about them so if you do a search you can find a bunch of info on them.

Or you could get you a BK14. Can't go wrong with one of those if you don't already have one :D

Either one though that would fit your need nicely me thinks.

BK-2, BK-14 with scales by brother Sh@rp (I'd go with the black ones, the alu is too much bling for me) or BK-11 with micarta. For real bushcrafters you'll have to wait until SHOT '12, tweeners an' stuff :D

Although I'd say the BK-2 is quite heavy for bushcrafty tasks, and also not sheeple friendly, at least not in my book. It is a huge black thing, remember that. It is a lot bigger than you'd originally think :D

Yea, if you're looking for something small and bushcrafty right now from becker, there actually isn't a huge number of options. The closest they've got is the BK14 and the BK2 which have both already been mentioned. I don't have a BK14, but I do like my BK2. While it is bigger than it looks, I would personally say that it does most smaller duties better than you would originally think it would, even considering its heft. And while it is big and black, it is a more non-threatening shape than other blades so I haven't had many bad reactions to mine so far, especially when I tell them its a "camp" knife. YMMV though, but those are my thoughts.

And yes... everyone is excited for the tweeners :).

Bushcrafty and sheeple friendly, that's a tough combo. Since most of my bush blades are 4.5 inches at the smallest, they don't tend to be sheeple friendly in the slightest. Id say get a combo of the bk14 and the bk2. Since you already have a 7 inch blade you can do some big work, and the 2 will take everything smaller, with the 14 for ultra fine work and edc around the sheeple

The two on the bottom. The BK-14 necker lays flat as a pancake on your chest and is virtualy invisible under sweat shirt or jacket. But it still has a decent sized blade.

That's a pretty good description of a BK2. I think that's the ticket for you friend.

course, you could also get a KaBar Mark I - it's fairly tweener like actually.

the BK14, esp with handles, could make a FINE bushcrafty knife. very fine.

i showed a BACKPACK full of KaBars to my local gun store, wanting to interest him in the new stuff, and some old stuff. he's a hunter, gets into his tree stand as often as possible, and skins himself a lot of deer. his opinion? most of the knife are too big. he mostly needs a pair of loppers and a saw for prep early in the season, and then later, for skinning, pretty much needs a 2.5 inch long knife. that's it. he liked the BK14 a bit, and figured 3-4 of those would process a lot of deer in the field before they needed sharpening... but the BK2? he laughed. "what am i going to use this for?" heh. not sold ;P he did like the larger Zombie Pestilence chopper as a nice little machete. about the only thing he liked.

Thats a great idea, those things are quite sweet, and are probably the most tweenerish thing that you can get from kabar right now.

And its sad about the hunter not liking most of the knives, but from his perspective, I can totally see his point. For his uses... a BK2 would probably seem pretty overkill. Me, I like mine :).

Already having the BK7, I think you'd benefit most from a BK14, or 11. I carry mine everyday, and just as the BK2 can handle surprisingly small tasks, the 14 performs well beyond its size. With some handle scales, it will make a very satisfactory bushcrafting blade.

If you want something a bit larger with more handle, wait for the tweeners or try the KaBar Mk I.

If you don't own an 11/14 - you need one. There is no price reason not to. I think they are great fire prep knives - not splitting logs, getting tinder together, making fuzzies, etc. I used an 11 last year to field dress and skin a deer.

You also almost have to have a 2. It is too short for chopping, too heavy for hiking, too thick for slicing... but somehow it becomes this very capable and very useful camp knife. It is truly bombproof - you may damage one, but you aren't going to break it. It is massively thick, strong and sharp.

Get a 2 and a 14 - if you deal hunt a little, it should be around $100 or so for both.

That should hold you while you decide if you need a 5 or a 9 next.

based on adding up current models on a popular website that sell Beckers, just shy of over $500 will purchase ALL of them (2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 11csm, 13, 14)

not bad, huh?

and some people are selling a old style #1 for that much.

Buy Becker :)

Thanks for all the ideas and advice. This is a great thicket to kickit but i think i'll just have to get them all starting with the 14 and the 11 or maby the 2 or the 9. :)
