Which Becker to buy for first one?

I'm looking to buy my first Becker in a little while, mainly because of the cult following they have here, and elsewhere. I'm not too familiar with all the models, what would be a good do-everything size? Id be doing everything from cooking/game cleaning, to a little bit of chopping as needed. I'd prefer around a 4-5 blade, but not sure if that is a good idea. I came to this corner of Blade Forums to see what you all thought, and to say hello.

You are asking a lot from a 4-5 " blade . The bk2 could surely handle what your asking . I would recommend a two knife option I think you might be happier with in the long run the Bk16 and the Bk9 :D by the way welcome Randanator and hang around and I'am sure others will chime in :)

Hey randanator..

Welcome to our wee corner of the net.... I think you will find the denizens here pretty friendly and there is a lot of quality info shared...

I realize that having an answer from me is may be self serving on my part but, I will happily share with you what I carry..... every day I am not on an airplane I carry a lock blade Swiss with a Wood saw and a BK-11. Off the sidewalk I add a BK-16 and for chopping and stuff I add a BK-9.... The Sixteen takes care of skinning, food prep and bushie work and light batoning..... The Nine is like a light hatchet and short machete... I have used one to build shelters in the desert, the ponderosa and the hard wood forest..... I would start with the Sixteen as it is most versatile, light, handy and the one I use the most.... I hope this helps your decision making...

Thank you for considering purchasing one of my blades......

All best... ethan

BK16. It’s like an old friend.

I agree with the two knife option also. Get the King sooner than later. Bask in its royal majesty!

For your intended uses I would agree a 2 knife option would be best ... the BK16 & BK9 as a few Ethan included recommended ...

if you're set on one knife the 9 could handle it the 2 could handle it with a restriction on batoning smaller wood ... I have never owned a BK7 but it might fall into the middle and work as a one knife alone setup.

Did you say game cleaning???:) The 16 gets it done rather nicely

Sounds like a 16 wins the popular vote, and will be what I go for when I get the cash. I think it will do nicely, especially since I already have an Ontario SP-8 as a chopper. Thank you all for the input, and it was nice to meet you. By the way, does anyone know of a good spot in SE Ohio that I can camp and try out some knives? Thanks!

For Beckers probably BK 16 for all general purpose whittle and critter cleaning for general light to medium use for general carry and use.

For all round not know what you might run in to and be ready for every thing that size blade a BK 2 if your going to rely on ONE knife only.

I never got a BK 10 or BK 7 because of the thumb ramp interferes with my smaller work, I think its ok on the 9 because its bigger and still can do small knife stuff.

2 knife system works or 3, one important thing is a SAW of some sorts.

I always take a few good lock back folder or two because it helps a lot.
