Which belt grinder???

Can anyone advise me on which is the best belt grinder to buy? I have one which has a 87” belt length, and which has limited attachments, and I am seriously considering ‘popping over’ to the US to pick up something better.

I guess my three main choices being Bader III, Burr King, Hard Core and Square Wheel. I must admit that the Square Wheel seems to be looking good, especially when it comes in at a much lower price than the others… but I would certainly like some input guys! The trip is just a thought, as I could just order one I suppose, but I was thinking it would be nice to make it coincide with a good knife (and gun) show if that was possible, obviously keeping all of this a secret from my wife, who would think I was the best husband alive to suggest a impromptu holiday to the United States J
Ideally I would like to re-visit Florida as I love the place and my wife has never been, but any suggestions would be welcome. I have the Sheffield Knife Supplies catalogue, and they seem to stock some real good stuff, however they did inform me that they may not have all of the Belt Grinders in at any one time, so I guess a pre-order would be the way to go, so this is where I would welcome the advice….
Oh, and a very happy Christmas to everyone……

I have used Burr Kings w/variable speed motors 2x72 belt size for years and like them very much, however,i dont think burr king is supplying them anymore. The Hardcore is quite similar, but much improved, i am told.Whichever way you go,get one that takes 2x72 belts and a variable speed motor.you wont regret it,once you get over the buyers remorse.

Whichever model you decide on, and the Wilton certainly has a good price, (although the Bader isn't much more expensive) go ahead and get the variable speed. It will make life infinitly easier on you as well as improve the the results you get with the finer belts and is a must when sanding various handle materials! I have used the Wilton variable speed and loved it, wish I could buy one myself!-Guy Thomas

This is from a very, very satisfied customer.

I started with a Wilton, upgraded to a variable speed motor a couple years after, wish I had done that SOONER...
I like the Wilton its very versatile and inexpensive. I recently bought 2 JL grinders a verticle and a horizontal, I like them ALOT. The verticle JL makes setup faster than the Wilton, and is more convenient to use in my opinion. Like everyone else says, get a variable speed, it ends up being cheaper in the long run..
