Which Benchmade folder for me?

I have never had a Benchmade and I don't know well this brand, so I need help to choose one.
I love my Spyderco Military and Para-military, I also like Manix, but it's a little heavy for my taste. Which are the "correspondent" Benchmade folders in the same "heavy duty" category?
What I'm looking for is a solid knife to carry with me on mountain for trekking and camping.

You might want to take a look at the Benchmade 520 if heavy duty is what you are looking for. If you dont want metal handles, check out the 710. The 806 is another great choice, similar to the Military, but it's discontinued and harder to come by nowadays.

Thanks very much for the answer! Now I made some searches and probably the 710 could be the better choice for me.
The AFCK is very nice, but it seems to be hard to find it at a decent price.

Thanks again!!

Why don't you start with a Griptilian? It's a great performer but still moderatly priced. IMHO, it's a great way to get to know Benchmade knives.

I really like the 550 Griptilian (modified sheepfoot blade, opening hole), but there are quite a few blade shape options to choose from.

AXIS lock and 154CM steel for around $65 is a good deal in my book. I used to be a "Spyderco only" sort of guy, the Griptilian and BM Ares changed me.

I think the Benchmade 730 ares or the Doug Ritter Ritter Grip would be good. Both are not heavy and I think they could stand up to alot of hard work! Good Luck! Kevin

710 in D2 is a great choice, It won't be easy to find one in M2 at a decent price and honestly, I doubt there's a big difference between them.

Knifecenter of the internet still has a few M2 models. I just bought one the other day. Tell them what forum you heard it at if you buy it. Joe L.

Not trying to knock the Griptilian, but going from a Spyderco Military to a Grip might be a bit of a disappointment. But for a budget priced BM it's not bad.

I prefer the BM 710 and the Ares if you want am Axis Lock, the Stryker if you want a liner lock.

Heavy duty in consideration to the Manix lets me think on heavy carry.:D
But you do carry lighter knives. So the 520 is an option but it is relativly heavy. I do carry one since 15 month constantly and have no problems with the weight, but you may do.

I think the Grips are good to start with. Light but plenty of strength. You get a good impression about how BM grinds blades and edges. Sounds bader than the others when opened but consider price/performance ratio you should be glad.

I love my 550 and would recommend it as the true Grip instead of the 551.
