I want to buy a new BM and I only have enough money to buy one. If you could only get one, which one would it be ? I already have a 710, 705, 720, and a CQC7. Thanks for your help.

John: If you're real hot on the Axis lock, try the BM 730. Real nice size and feel. For other BMs I am still partial to the 910 Stryker. I keep coming back to it.
Good luck Dick

I NEED to get one of the new 690's that is being released.

My preference is for the 720. The more I carry it, the more I love it. I guess it really comes down to personal preference. I see the 720 as being a very strong, versatile knife, that is well-suited for hunting and rough outdoor work. Plus, I just love the looks of the thing. Funny thing is, when it first came out, I didn't really care for it. Then I happened to pick one up and something just clicked! These things happen...

My favorite Benchmade is my Srtyker from Allen Elishewitz. Great all around carry knife... I can't wait to get my hands on a 690 too!

Another vote fo the 690. I see that benchmade is greatly improving their design every year, although it's more of an elishewitz design.

Stryker for me. I had to get another one because my 12 year old son borrowed my 1st one and I don't have the heart to make him give it back. Although I have tried numerous other Benchmade and Spyderco models the Stryker works best for me.

Considering what you have, I'd get an AFCK. They're going to be discontinued soon, and the AFCK has better ergonomics than any other knife I own.

If you want another Axis, I'd go for the 730 or 940, or 770. But there's just something about the feel of an AFCK in my hand that keeps me coming back to it even though I have a few Axis locks as well.

Well, you already own the best BM (705)

.

I agree with the AFCK recommendation. See if you can find one with the M2 blade steel. Great, fast folder, and already a modern classic.

John, I'll advise only from BENCHMADES I have experience with:
Get Ares if you want nicely balanced and reasonably sized knife.
Get Pinnacle if you want true workhorse.
Get Osborne if you want the prettiest knife.
Get Nimravus Cub if you want small fixed blade for urban and/or outdoors curry.
Get Nimravus (to be reviewed soon versus GERBER Yari) if you want fixed blade for outdoors use.
Get AFCK if you want the best buy BENCHMADE and one the most comfortable to handle knives of the world.
Choose between Axis Lock equipped BENCHMADE folders if you are lefty.

I didn't embarrass you yet?

I'd go with the 750 Pinnacle, it is a good strong reliable folder.I'm very pleased with mine.

BM 730. No question.

I have a 830 Ascent (AFCK type blade with a hole), 710, 722, 730, and 940, as well as the 145HS (M2 Nimravus Cub).

The 730 is without a doubt the best blade shape. For me.

I use it for general utility, kitchen duty, cardboard recycling (slicing up a lot of cardboard). In spite of a lot of use, it stays razor sharp with an occasional stropping, and even more occasional swipes on the white stones of the Sharpmaker. The 154CM is easy to keep razor sharp for ... you know... just in case.

I have a 720 and a 940 in hand and a 770 on order. I bought a 930 but I traded it as it just plain did not fit my hand. The swell at the back of the scales was MOST uncomfortable when I used it. I like the 720, it is a relatively heavy utility knife in the Spyderco Military or StarMate class, it's just that they do it better. But if you prefer BenchMades, then by all means, it is a good one with an axis lock and very solid aluminum scales. Just remember that it is NOT ambidextrous, as the clip can be mounted on one side only. The 940 is my favorite BM. It is a sweet little gent's knife. It comes with various color scales and it is carved in sweeping curves, creating a graceful item to view as well as a nice tool to use. Osborne did a good job on this one, and I am happily anticipating his 770, a 3" dress knife with carbon fiber scales and ATS34 blade. I ordered one for $109.95 + $5 shipping from Grand Prairie Knives http://www.gpknives.com/ and they say that they have a very few more.

Wow, tough question. Either a 940 or an AFCK. Can't go wrong either way.
