So I like making big 11-12 inch knives and was curious which style of big bladed knives sells the best and is the most sought after. For example hamon Bowie, Damascus bowie, brute de forge Bowie, camp chopper, tanto, wakizashi?

If you were a maker looking to make the most money out of big custom blades which style would you choose?

I don't know knife trends and which styles are the most sought after.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys!!!

I would highly caution against assuming what someone else sells well will matter to you or your customers.

I personally do rather well with highly finished large bowies in either damascus or polished with Hamon. But that doesnt matter .02c to you.

Your best bet is to do the knives YOU want to do, do them to the absolute best of your ability. Your own passion and love for your craft and work will bring customers that appreciate your work.

There’s a butt for every seat. Make what you want, make it well, and someone will buy it.

Thanks for your input guys. I actually only make knives I draw up and design based on what I like. I won't do custom orders because I like to make what I envision myself.

This is purely just to better understand the current knife trends and what style of knives people have the most success with selling or see get sold the most.

I'm not sure I'd say that one necessarily outsells another. Traditional bowies that are done well will always move pretty well, whether a mono steel, hamon, or pattern welded. Obviously you'll likely get more for a pattern weld or a hamon, IF done well. Take down bowies and keyhole style are also generally pretty well sought after from what I've seen.
