Which BK?

Okay, I've decided that I am going to invest in a new (my first) Becker fixed blade. I hike and camp extensively so I will be using it for a little bit of everything.

It will also reside in my bug out bag during the off season. I am looking for opinions. What is yours? Fire away!

I own a BK-9 and I love it. Granted I totally changed the blade profile but it is still a very reliable fixed blade. I just bought the BK-11 and I feel I could pretty much do anything with those 2. Also for the price of roughly $100 for both you can't beat it.

Do you have / carry an axe / hatchet? If so, I'd start with the BK16. If you want something larger / more able to cut and chop, then it's the 9 for sure. Since you said hike, though, I'd probably go with the BK16 as it'll handle most hiking needs.

I was gonna suggest either the 16 or 17. They both are really respectable blades and will handle damn near everything you can think to throw at them.

I love the 7. It's big enough to chop but small enough to do little work. The 9 and 11 combo would get anything you wanted done. If you have an axe / saw already then the 16 or 17 would be the best choice. Most hikes I take along the 11 and one other in the 16 17 size range. Camping I take a larger knife. All depends on what you like.

I do a lot of backpacking as well and I never go without my 16. Depending on the length/load out of the hike I always take my bk9, 16, and 14 but at the end of the trip I always seem to use my 16 the most.

I have to say, for a one-knife solution the BK2 is probably the best bet. It isn't the best at anything (except batoning through 4" or smaller logs), but it can do everything reasonably well.

Or, maybe a tweener if you also carry an axe.

The BK9 is great, but it's a lot to carry size wise, even though it weighs about the same as the 2.

Gotta love the Beckers, you really can't go wrong with any of them.

Bk2 is too heavy for backpacking IMO. I'd rather have the 9 if I was carrying the extra weight

BK16 is the most convenient GP camp/field/hunt knife in the lineup IMHO, if you have a hatchet/saw/e-tool to go with it: but the BK12 makes a very convincing argument for proponents of the "if I had only one cutting implement" school of illogical thought.
