I need some recommmendations for a HI blade to keep in my car kit. I currently have a 16 1/2 CAK. It's very heavy but good for everything. I'm re-thinking my car kit and want to put a bigger blade in it. Never know when I might need it. I'm not sure if I want something as big as the CAK.

Which HI blade would you have? It doesn't have to be a Khukri. Thoughts?

I've been thinking of keeping my CAK in my car kit too but my heart would break if it somehow got stolen, still excellent choice. I would recommend an HI M43 or an AK Bowie.

What purpose will the blade serve in the kit? I carry a tomahawk in my car to bust a window or other objects. I live in the city so as far as wilderness goes its not a factor.

make sure you check with your local govt./police to see what kind of knives are allowed in the passenger space, some have draconian anti-everything laws, varying not only by states but by your local towns. some allow concealed, some allow open only, some forbid completely. may be different rules than for carry in the trunk. may need it in a locked toolbox in the trunk. etc. etc. most police & judges don't care that you have a right to bear arms, they think they have a nanny states right to interpret the constitution as they see fit. :(

i know somebody whole was going to school in Mass. where you can get arrested for thinking about knives/guns or thrown out of school for having a drawing or photo of one (unless you are a democrat politician). a few miles east he'd be in a state where they let you carry whatever kind of knife or gun you want, concealed or open - it's what you do with it that counts. i know where i'd live, he couldn't move w/o changing to a lesser school, so he was stuck for a few years...

Kronk: Did you say draconian or was that Texas? Oh well same thing! We can only have one in the vehicle if its being transported directly to a repair shop or to the final destination like a campsite or property you plan to clear etc. If you stop at a restroom on the way you could be screwed because you have a knife and your not at your final destination. If I could carry one tho Id put my 20"AK in the pass seat. And my Giant Chitlangi Bowie in the gun rack under my shotgun:D
Id go JWB's suggestion with the KLVUK. It aint so shiny and would attract less attention but would get the job done!

Draconian is an adjective meaning great severity, that derives from Draco, an Athenian law scribe under whom small offences had heavy punishments (Draconian laws).

sounds like here. if i go fishing i can carry and transport a fixed blade knife, if i break the journey at any point, ie. stop for gas or food, i can get arrested. ndarned socialist liberal crud obfuscating their brains when they wrote that idiotic law. hasn't stopped people getting knifed. they have not figured out that criminals do not obey their stupid laws.

i understand texas made the US military stop using their 7 in. bayonets as they prohibited any knife over 5 in., so troops going overseas to iraq were not issued with bayonets. what did you let the idiot loiberals pass that 'law' for? jim bowie must be spinning in his grave, not just turning over...

In Kansas, our laws about fixed blades changed last summer and they went back to considering knives to be tools. I'm good to go keeping a blade, axe, khuk, etc. in my car.

I'm trying to decide if I want to keep a khuk or a different style blade in my car for emergencies. I really want the most multipurpose tool, just in case.....

I do live in the outskirts of a city, have farm land I travel to and drive into the city.... So I can possibly experience a variety of situations...

Actually I second the KLUVK, awesome blade, want one so bad but can't justify buying one. They are lighter and a bit smaller than the CAK having a stick tang and around 15-16" OAL usually. Not as strong as the CAK but could probably handle anything you throw at it. Also a lot cheaper and more rugged looking so you wont be afraid to beat the crap out of it...sigh....someday...I'll own one of those rustic beauties.

Being a car kit, would a "chain mate" type saw accompanied by a "leatherman" type multi tool and a prybar and then any knife you like be an option? I'm just thinking that in a car kit you wont be too concerned with weight constraints, so why not have a tool for each job rather than one "knife" to do everything...?

Already have a tool set, bahco laplander, some other stuff. I have smaller 4-5" fixed blades. Great idea with the prybar. I want a bigger blade, just not sure what kind to include yet. Thanks for the ideas.

Thankfully, my state generally has common sense when it comes to blades. I have no doubt in my mind that if I were to be pulled over locally a khuk in my trunk wouldn't raise much of an eyebrow by our typically levelheaded and even keeled LEOs.

I keep a KLVUK in my truck and a 13" AK in my jeep. My truck is a work truck, so a bigger blade may be called on more frequently. I don't take my jeep on super offroading trips, so I'm not thinking about having to clear a 14" diameter tree trunk or something. Just a handy fixed blade that can do most chores without complaint:)

Actually, my Pen Knife was perfect for that role before some shifty so and so snagged it out of my jeep a few months ago  Eh, life goes on.

And that was a Bura Pen Knife too as I recall. Automatic felony level crime right there. I hate thieves.
