I've read about "mini-serrations" adding to the cutting ability of certain damascus blades. Is this true and which damascus does this work on? Or is there a different steel/material which combines the best of a straight edge and serrations. Thanks.

Warm Regards,

P.S. How do I get a flag or other symbol by my name? Thanks - and god bless!:p

Several materials come to mind...Damascus, Stellite 6K, Talonite, Boye dendritic cobalt, Boye dendritic 440C and I imagine Wootz but I am not really familiar with wootz. All except Damascus get their toothieness from harder carbide structures in a base metal, the base metal wears away and exposes the harder carbide crystals resulting in a toothy characteristic for the blade.

To get the flag by your name, go to user CP. Select edit options. Go to the bottom and it will give you the option of an avitar. Select the U.S. flag. Hit change options and that should do it. Good luck!

Steels will have various degrees of aggression at high levels of polish due to the grain structure, however none at a high polish will be as aggressive as any steel with a slightly rougher edge finish. For example Boye recommends sharpening with something like a 600 grit DMT, any steel left with such a finish will slice in a very aggressive manner. The "teeth" left by the coarse nature of the abrasive are far larger than any internal steel structure.
