Sorel. Classic look. Proven performance.

(No, I'm not writing a commercial for them).

Well it would make a good tag line for them either way :)

Ugg boots. Most Aussie's own a pair and they are warm and comfortable, don't know what I'd do without them in winter.... Although you don't see many waterproof versions here in Aus, they are mostly the soft leather version:

I myself like the looks of the Uggs more personally as well, just wanted to get a wider opinion :D

I'd suggest you choose function not fashion! You should be less concerned about looks as long as they fit well, and are effective for the task at hand. Performance is everything.

Looks have nothing to do with it. Seriously. Choose a boot that suits your climate and needs. Having winter boots that fit is pretty important too.

I have a pair of those Sorel Glaciers and they are serious boots for serious cold weather (rated to something like -70C or -100C). I would not wear the in anything warmer than -30C. I also wouldn't wear them for activities where I need to walk long distances because they are kind of clumsy. The removable liners are great though because you can take them out to dry overnight or swap in a fresh pair when you need em.

I've never used Ugg boots, but I have used Sorel's. They were fantastic boots when I was working on crab boats in Alaska and they were great for hauling beaver and wolves out of my father-in-laws traplines on the Kenai Peninsula.

Fashion question.....

I'm not so sure I'd either to look good in? If it's a "what's the prettier pac boot of the two?" type of question, I'm definitely not qualified to answer.

That said, the Ugg's in the 1st photo look more fashionable that any of the others.

Hey WW,

For truly cold conditions ranging from -10 C to -50 C and colder (that 14 F to -58 F or lower) Sorels are your choice. Up here in Canada, Uggs are popular with the mall-shopping crowd.

Just saying.

Bunny boots... ugly as sin, but they work.

Just for the lineup, the bottom pair of sorels. When the snow gets deep and crystalized, you want that to stay far away from your skin, the longer boot keeps your snowpants from riding over the top, functionally better for deeper snow.

Thanks everyone for answering and giving your opinions,

I should have explained better, I never plan on going anywhere where the temps hit negative anything LMAO At the very most once a year maybe snowboarding in the Pocono mountains.

Im in PA and the weather where im at seldom goes below 30F thats why im looking for a "looks" opinion instead of a function opinion really. Either boots would keep my feet warm here, heck my regular nike tennis shoes do just fine with some warm socks on underneath.

If i was to pick which i though look like they would function best in really cold weather and snow id say the bottom sorels look to be the warmest and driest of them all, but since im not needing the warmest and driest its more just about the looks to me.

This started as more of a joke because i thought some of the sorels i seen were ugly, then my wife said i really needed some winter boots anyway so why not really find ones I would like, So the more i looked i found ones i thought looked nice from both brands, these are my top 3 favorites from each company but i have never been the top "fashion" guy and would rather have a wider opinion base on the looks of them to keep me from walking out the house looking crazy LMAO

Since im a knife and outdoor addict, and since this place is full of other knife and outdoor addicts i thought this would be a great place to get a wide opinion base on the subject.

Thanks everyone for your opinions, let them continue on, but like i said just standing from a visual stand point as either would function fine for my intended use.

Aha, why not just grab a pair of good quality work boots?
I can't judge looks for crap, I'd try on those bottom Uggs because they look less bulky, more for show than go... maybe like weak work boots, the fabric looks like I'd tear it up in days.

Ignore everything we say. And ask your wife to pick them out.

If it seldom gets below 30 then I would buy something with 100 to 200 rated thinsulate boots.

I have those bottom sorels, they're great. They're super comfortable, you can just slip them on and off without tying (if you're into that), and most importantly! They look pretty cool :)
