Fellow members of this forum,

I am faced with a problem, I am building up a collection of Walter Brend knives. I have a number of these and am now trying to decide what to buy next.

I ask you as my fellow knife collectors, what is the one Brend knife that you must/would like to have? I exclude production knives such as Microtechs from this debate.

I look forward to your replies......

Regards,

Ed :D

Ed- do you have that Brend neck knife I've been seeing lately? Typical incredible grinds and for a reasonable price!:)

My fist inclination was to say all of them but that is no help.
I am going to have to think about this one since everything from users to fancy and from fixed to folders comes to mind right now. I do know that he has a new auto comming out soon. I am pretty sure he is working with Tom Kyle on it and that the proto's should be ready pretty soon. That might be the first thing that would tempt me. Then there is that beautiful Pearl Folder at Les' site. The model 2 at Jay and Karens (folder) and the fixed model 2 at Larry's site. Choosing between those three would be hard enough. If I was starting the model 2 fixed would be a must in my Brend Collection.

That is going to be one heck of a collection, if it is not already. I wish in some ways I had the mindset of collecting knives from one maker.

Oh yes forgot about that Brian. There may still be some available. Check with Bobby Branton on that if you are interested he can be found in the Knife Throwing Forum here at BF.

Ed my friend, you've got good taste!

As a "usual suspect" I'd suggest you might want to take a look and consider the Official 20th Anniversary Brend Spiked Hatchet. 50 of them to be made, and delivery I believe is the end of September.

"Chindit" has #20. Bobby Branton has #0, I've got #11. I don't know how many are still available. Information is available on the Tomahawk site.

I just picked up the Brend Stag folder Les shows on his site. He also told me he just got in a 6 inch #2, and a 10 inch #2 as well, if those interest you. Personally I'm looking for a Brend Sub Hilt!

There is a rather unique Brend Sheffield Bowie a Bladeart.com

Not exactly MY favorite Brend but if your buiding a collection...........;)

My Brend collection started with the Neck Knife and that's as far as it's going for a while!!

Model 2 Subhilt.
A folder with a milled out, interframe pocket & inlay.
Any Model 2 with something other than micarta handle (wood).

Having owned a few Brends

I am partial to the Model 2, in most sizes.

However, I always recommend D-2 (some are coming in 3V now).

Sniper thanks for the plug, both 6 1/2" model 2's have been sold (I think).

Ed, stay away from those other guys, you know those aren't new! ;)

How about a Model 5 fighter or a Bush hog. Maybe you can find a LDC-F4 somewhere. I do remember seeing a massive presentation bowie at Les's site a while back, I think it was called the Rouge Bowie or somthing along those lines. That would make a awesome addition.

Gents,

Thanks for the feedback. I should have listed the knives I have, but decided to ask the question blind!

Sniper308 - you got there before me on the inter-frame folder....

The tomahawk is ot my thing, but I will take a look.

The Brends that I currently have are:

Model 5 in D2
LDC F4
Model 4 folder with plain titanium slab handles
Neck knife set
Model 2 D2 6.5" - well this one should turn up later in the week (thanks Les)
Model 2 3V 10"

I have had a Bushhog on order for nearly a year - I cannot wait for that one.

Now whats next......how about a sub-hilt Bushhog with Desert Iornwood scales?

Regards,

Ed

I really have to second the model 2 subhilt. I think I'm gonna talk to Mr. Brend about getting one if I see him at the NY show in November.

How about a 9"+ Model 2 with a saw back. I got to handle one of these at the 1999 Nov. show. What a piece of steel.

The first time I saw the Model 2, it became a "Must Have" for me. I've almost picked one up a couple of times but, it was not to be. Guess that will make the day I finally get one even better ;).

The most impressive Walter Brend knife I have ever seen was on Les Robertson site few years ago. I think it was called Rogue or something similar to this. It was so wicked that I cannot even describe it, but based on model 2. Maybe Les has the picture in his archives. I also like the short wide dagger that Les has on his site. I am in line to get one possibly in september. I also would like to get model 1. I have never handled one , but it seems like it would be faster in the hand than model 2. I used to have model 2 with 6.5" blade and model 5 with 10" blade. I just bought model 2 with 7.5" blade, but it will be exchanged for Maringer Vorpal soon.

I have to agree that the Model 2 Subhilt is one of the most impressive knives in his line. I have 3 knives on order from Walter, and am debating ordering a Model 2 Subhilt this fall when I stop by his shop to pick up my pair of folders. If you haven't added one to your collection, they would be a great addition.
