I drew a moose permit:D and my first thought is which Buck
knife should i use to gut the moose? so many knives and only
one moose, it's going to be a tough decision.
Which knife would you use?

A Buck Metro should work

KIDDING! :D

On game that big, a 119 or 120 should do!

I've shot two moose here in Maine. I used my 24 year old Buck Pathfider on both. Its the same knife I've carried every hunting season since I got it for Christmas in 1983. Its my good luck charm of sorts!

I've never killed anything bigger than a whitetail, but I think a 119 or 120 would be too much knife for a moose. I'd agree with Tanguay on the 105 Pathfinder.

I would be looking at a cabelas alaskan hunter 110,you'll easily do a whole mooze with it,including skinning, quartering, and still be able to say its sharp,Its easier to use a 110 on moose than a fixed blade imho.

Big game hunters tend to be divided into several schools as knives go. The decision for you should be based on a few things. First, folding or fixed? Do you mind cleaning the blood, guts, and sinew out of your folding knife when you're done? Second, do you tend to re-sharpen your knife partway thru skinning, or will you wait 'til you're at home to re-sharpen? If you intend to sharpen in the field, it might be worth getting a knife made of 420HC - it will take an edge faster than the high-performance steels like S30V, BG-42, ATS34, or 154CM. If you want to wait 'til you get home, check outa high-performance steel. Finally, some guys like a bigger knife, while others swear by a small one. Take all this into consideration, and it should help you make your decision based on your needs. Goood luck! - Jim
