Next weekend, my local outfitter, Kittery Trading Post, will be having their "Septemberfest" celebration, it's a traditional sale that takes place during the first couple weeks of September, one of the events is going to be Chuck Buck signing knives....

So, what better reason to get another Buck knife, the question is, which one, the traditionalist in me says to go for a classic Buck 110 (probably the finger groove model) or 55 FG, but the other part of me says to go for a Buck/Strider collabration (not sure which model, the "shapened prybar" one)

so, which one to get (and no, buying both is not an option ;) )

To the best of my knowledge the 55 is not offered as a FG. Chuck Buck is a great guy. I would buy the knife I wanted and spend the time with Chuck just getting to know him. Chuck's signature on the blade, in my opinion, does not add to the value of the knife as a collectable but might be a nice momento of your meeting him.

Mac,
If you have a knife signed by Chuck, chances are it won't be a user. I would choose a knife that I'd be willing to set aside or display. That should make your decision easier.
Have fun!
Mike

Yeah, what Richard and Mike said.
I do use my signed 298GY...it has a faint signature and you have to hold it up just right, facing south, make sure the stars are lined up with the planets, and only on the second quarter moon of the month. Larry told me he had it signed when the etch pen was running low on squirrel power....but I like it.

Point is, I don't use the other signed ones and they are regulated to their cells in my Buck Dungeon.

As for a 55FG, that would be a hoot. I think the only one that could use a 55FG is that little "Chucky" doll from the movie "Childs Play".

Lot's of drift in this post, but I would get a nice knife you would want as a momento to be signed and perhaps another as the EDC.

To heck with it BUY BOTH!!!!!
If memory serves me right, the 110 will be on sale possibly when Chuck is there? See - One of each simple!! :D
I myself to get one signed would lean towards the 110.
One of each does sound more appealing to me though! :D
Good luck in your decision! I dont think I would be able to sleep tonight with that sort of decision coming up!!! :)

I actually bought a 110 that was apparently handed out to all Buck emplyees in El Cajon that was etched with "Thanks from the Buck family" and signed by both CJ and Chuck. It is also confined to my "Buck Locker." :D

Last month Chuck was at Bass pro....I spent 3 hours with him...he signed 4 knives(110's) for me....and gave me a handfull of knife pins.Take your camera
and try and spend some time with him.A great man.I enjoyed watching him with the younger generation with their mom or dad buying them their first knife and Chuck signing it for them.$19.88 110's were when Chuck was at Bass pro....and alot of other models were on sale.

I also dont use any of my signed Buck Knives.
All for display or safe keeping!

Well, i went into KTP, tried out the 110 and 112, both plain handle and FG, the 112 was nice, but just a little too small for my meathooks, the 110 fit perfectly, nice balance, it just fit

then i tried the FG model, and a good knife became even greater, the finger grooves allow a much more confident and comfortable grip on the knife, the FG model is worth the difference in price, the handle becomes much more ergonomic with the addition of the grooves

I hope i'm not breaking protocol here by mentioning another manufacturers knives in the same post, but i'd argue that the 110FG is *almost* as comfortable as my Spyderco Dodos (my "Gold Standard" for comfort and ergos)

today i also decided to forego my usual Spyderco Salt arsenal and use the 110FG for all my cutting needs, to give it a good workout

I think i'm going to be happy with this one, i did have a 110 before, the "wally-world special" in the commemerative tin, but i just never warmed to it, it was a nice, solid knife, but something felt missing, so i sold it, the 110FG, bought from a *real* outdoors shop, with it's *real* leather sheath just feels better, no cheap ballistic nylon sheath, no supporting the evil which is wally-world, i own a solidly built American Legend, the Buck 110

Damn Triple-E...I didn't realize that Chuck wrote so slow. Poor guy. :foot:

Sirusly, I think it is great that a gent at his corp level will go out and press the flesh with the buying public. Sure, it's marketing, but he doesn't "have" to do that. Says a lot, at least to me, about Mr. Buck and the brand I hold in almost cult like status for their quality, tradition, and customer service.

Thanks for the post.

CJ signed yours Goose,,,,,,,sirusly....:D

I've been very impressed with the cutting prowess of the 110, using it as my primary blade today i was not "under-knifed" in any way, it made short work of breaking down boxes, cutting through cardboard like it wasn't even there, it actually out-cut my Spyderco Endura 4, the E4 tended to drag as it cut through the cardboard, the thin hollow grind of the 110FG seperated cardboard far more efficiently

the only job the 110FG does not do as well as a Spydie (Cricket or Tasman Salt) is scoring boxes to remove shipping labels, in those situations where point control is paramount, the downturned point of a Hawkbill blade gives unheard of control

maybe Buck should bring out a Hawkbill blade, take the handle and scales of a 110, and drop in a Hawkbill blade, the "BuckHawk"....

Yep..." CJ Buck '05 "
Thanks Larry. When did you send me that?
Ya know, that EDC has truly been my EDC. Even though I rotate between a few 110 units and my 112FG for the belt, I always have my 298GY ATS-34 clipped to my pocket.
Great knife.
Thanks,
Goose.

no question about it, get him to sign a 110 and make sure he puts the year. a buddy of mine was at bass pro in springfield and picked up a 110 and got it signed for me. as far as a user, i have another 110 but if it goes down the road i wouldn't hesitate to use the signed one. dang boy it's a tool not a signed baseball. later, ahgar
from what my buddy said he's a heck of a nice guy, took time with people and was just great.

If you can use a signed knife- why not use a signed baseball?? :)
